Winery: Tabarrini Winery – with Winemaker Giampaolo Tabarrini
Location: Montefalco, Umbria, Italy
Dates: Mid-January 2026 – Mid-December 2026 (approx. 11 months)
Compensation: Monthly stipend + room and board
Target: US enology/viticulture students & recent graduates
Position Summary
Tabarrini, a family-run estate in Montefalco known for its terroir-driven Sagrantino and other native varieties, is offering a full-vintage Enology Stage. The stagiaire will work side by side with winemaker Giampaolo Tabarrini and the cellar/vineyard teams, following the entire cycle from winter pruning through harvest and post-harvest cellar work.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with vineyard tasks: pruning, canopy management, green harvest, harvest prep
• Support grape reception, crush/destemming, pressing, and cap management
• Help with ferment monitoring (Brix, temperature, tasting) and basic lab analyses
• Participate in racking, topping, cleaning/sanitation, and barrel/cask management
• Join tastings and discussions with Giampaolo to connect cellar decisions with wine style
Ideal Candidate
• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an enology/viticulture or fermentation science program
• Strong interest in Italian wine, especially Montefalco Sagrantino
• Able to perform physical work and flexible hours, including during harvest
• Good working English; Italian helpful but not required
