Store & Tasting Room Operations Manager
Picayune Cellars & Mercantile is a destination tasting room and lifestyle boutique in downtown Calistoga, offering small-production wines, unique artisan goods (over 2,000 SKUs), and simple, seasonal food experiences. Position Overview
The Operations & Tasting Room Manager leads all aspects of daily retail and tasting room operations, ensuring an organized, profitable, and inspiring guest experience. This role is ideal for a hands-on, proactive professional skilled at managing people, processes, and inventory with consistency and precision.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Oversee all tasting room and mercantile operations, ensuring a seamless guest and staff experience.
- Enforce and continuously refine operational standards, procedures, and policies.
- Hire, train, motivate, and oversee a high-performing team focused on hospitality and sales.
- Lead daily pre-shift meetings; communicate clear goals and performance expectations.
- Implement metrics for team performance and create incentive programs to drive results.
- Collaborate with ownership on marketing, traffic-building initiatives, and event execution.
- Manage scheduling, register systems, daily dashboard.
Inventory & Merchandising
- Maintain accurate inventory systems for wine and merchandise.
- Conduct regular physical counts and reconcile discrepancies.
- Oversee receiving, pricing, merchandising, and inventory audits.
- Partner with ownership to improve processes for efficiency and accuracy.
Customer Experience
- Model and ensure five-star guest service, storytelling, and authentic connection.
- Cultivate client relationships, manage team follow-ups, and track guest data.
- Execute tastings, wine club signups, and retail transactions with professionalism and energy.
- Oversee the launch and continuity of the food service program in coordination with partners.
Wine Club & Wholesale Support
- Collaborate with the Wine Club Coordinator to strengthen retention and engagement.
- Ensure seamless fulfillment, shipping compliance, and in-person club pickup protocols.
- Support direct-to-trade sales activities as needed (events, allocations, deliveries).
Qualifications
- 3+ years in hospitality, retail, or tasting room management.
- Proven success leading teams, enforcing policies, and maintaining high standards.
- Strong inventory management skills with 2,000+ SKUs.
- Advanced wine knowledge and genuine enthusiasm for education and storytelling.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office, Apple systems, and Shopify POS.
- Must be 21+ and available weekends and occasional evenings.
- Established industry network within Napa/Sonoma preferred.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and move merchandise safely.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, guest-facing retail and tasting setting.
