Winemaker, Winery Assistant Manager

Job Description:

Chapelton Vineyards is a new winery in Washington, TX just over an hour from Houston and Austin. We are looking for an experienced winemaker to join our team and grow with our winery! Brand new winemaking equipment, barrel room, tasting room, event space, and 14 acres of estate vineyards. Blanc de Bois, Merlot, Tempranillo, Black Spanish. Will be purchasing grapes locally and beyond. This is a great opportunity for a winemaker looking to start a winemaking program and grow with a winery with big dreams!

Qualifications:
- Winemaking experience with a leadership role in a winery
- Proven track record of producing premium wines
- Degree in Enology, Chemistry or related field preferred
- Experience with both the practical and technical aspects of the winemaking process and understand winemaking regulatory requirements. Includes all aspects of harvest, fermentation, cellar work, and winemaking analysis is preferred.
- Must possess excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills, fluent in English, both verbal and written; spoken Spanish helpful.
- Experience in a winemaking environment, and a commitment to growing quality.
- Strong organizational, teambuilding, problem solving skills, attention to detail, with ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds; work on and around ladders, catwalks, uneven flooring, in hot, cold and wet environments; with typical winery chemical exposure and conditions.
- Available to work a varied schedule during harvest season as needed.
- Excellent math skills and accuracy with numbers and strong recordkeeping skills along with a working knowledge of data collection and data analysis.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as the ability to learn other related computer programs & databases.
- Experience with both the practical and technical aspects of the winemaking process and understand winemaking regulatory requirements
This position requires a highly motivated individual who is organized, detail oriented, flexible and able to work independently as well as a member of a team

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- This lead role will be directly responsible for the day-to-day winemaking and maintenance of wine quality, as well as directing and training the Winemaking & Harvest team seasonally.
- Oversees the entire production process of creating wine, including grape harvesting, crushing, fermentation, aging, blending and bottling
- Supervise and participate all day-to-day cellar operations, including harvest, bulk wine, barrels, bottling preparation, sanitation, and cellar organization and cleanliness
- Provide winemaking technical support to the production staff
- Supervise laboratory analyses including but not limited to Alcohol, Brix, Free SO2, Total SO2, pH, TA, Malic, Glucose/Fructose
- Participate in wine tasting at all stages throughout the winemaking process
- Supervise and lead in filtering and bottling of wines
- Responsible for adhering to state and federal regulations
- Lead educational tastings and tours of the facility
- Be available for weekend and evening winery events that require interaction with customers (ex: wine club pick up, winemakers' dinners, gala, etc.)


Compensation is competitive and based on experience and qualification
Full-Time Position, Some Saturday's & Sundays will be required
