Summary
The Senior Accountant – Winery Operations is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely financial records to support winery operations. This role plays a critical part in the month-end and year-end close processes, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting. The position partners closely with management to ensure accurate cost accounting, compliance with GAAP, and strong internal controls.
As a key member of the finance team, the Senior Accountant will engage across multiple levels of the organization, collaborate with business partners, and contribute to process improvements that drive efficiency and accuracy. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial insights effectively to management.

Key Responsibilities
•  Lead components of the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and posting of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
•  Prepare and review complex journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules (e.g., commissions, payroll accruals, reserves, intercompany eliminations).
•  Maintain and reconcile intercompany accounts, subsidiary allocations, and related transactions.
•  Partner with production and inventory teams to ensure proper cost accounting and reporting.
•  Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including inventory, fixed assets, and accruals; manage depreciation schedules.
•  Support fiscal year budget creation, analysis, and variance review.
•  Prepare schedules, work papers, and documentation to support external audits and tax preparation.
•  Research and apply technical accounting guidance (e.g., leases ASC-842, revenue recognition).
•  Assist in implementing and improving accounting systems, processes, and internal controls.
•  Provide financial analysis, monitor variances, and communicate insights to management.
•  Perform various balance sheet reconciliations, including but not limited to Banking, Loans, Deferred Crop, etc.
•  Provide support across AP, AR, payroll, and other accounting functions as needed.
•  Contribute proactively to cross-departmental collaboration and continuous process improvement initiatives.

Education & Experience
•  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
•  5+ years of progressive accounting experience; winery, manufacturing, or agricultural industry experience preferred.
•  Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
•  Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills; QuickBooks or ERP system experience preferred.
•  Experience with cost accounting, inventory, and payroll processes.
•  Audit preparation and external reporting experience a plus.
