Position Overview
The Winery Maintenance Manager (WMM) is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of all winery equipment and infrastructure. This role ensures that all production and facility operations run smoothly and efficiently, minimizing downtime and maintaining high-quality standards. The WMM will accomplish tasks by tending to them personally, utilizing trained staff, and/or working collaboratively with third party support teams. The position requires strong technical skills, leadership abilities, and a keen understanding of winery operations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all winery equipment and facilities.
• Equipment Repair: Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (water, glycol, sewer) issues with winery equipment (pumps, filters, and misc. small equipment), key winery systems (refrigeration units, water filtration, RO, wastewater capture, storage, and reuse, and HVAC).
• Facility Management: Oversee the maintenance of the winery's physical infrastructure including buildings, grounds, and utility systems.
• Inventory Management: Maintain an inventory of spare parts and tools, ensuring availability for timely repairs and limited downtime.
• Team Leadership: Supervise and train maintenance staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards. Assist with safety inspections and address any hazards promptly.
• Vendor Management: Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and maintenance services.
• Capital Expansion Projects: Advise, design, and construct infrastructure for adding expansion projects by combining multiple technical skills.
• Problem Solving: Access issues and provide fiscally responsible solutions.
• Budget Management: Manage the maintenance budget, tracking expenses and ensuring cost-effective solutions.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment manuals, and maintenance logs. Assist with completion of legally required reporting as needed.

Qualifications:
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in maintenance or related field preferred.
• Experience: A minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a winery or beverage production facility. Prior supervisory experience is highly desirable. Spanish language skills a plus.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Knowledge of winery equipment and production processes is a plus. Familiarity with presses, Tom Beard barrel washer systems, frequency drives, reverse osmosis, ozone, and refrigeration. Basic occasional landscaping (tree work). TIG and MIG stainless steel arc welding experience a plus.
• Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills. Ability to motivate and guide maintenance staff.

Physical & Work Requirements:
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.)
• Comfort working in confined spaces and/or performing physically demanding tasks.
• Ability to stand or walk continuously for 8-12 hours at a time.
• Work indoors/outdoors in varying conditions.
Typical schedule:
• Dec–Aug: 10-hr shifts, 4 days/week (OT as needed)
• Sept–Nov: 8-hr shifts, 5 days/week (OT likely)
• May require working evenings, weekends, and holidays to address urgent maintenance needs.
• Increased availability/flexibility during the harvest season (typically Sept-Nov).
