Harvest Cellar Worker

Job Description:

The Harvest Cellar Worker is an integral part of our winemaking team during the demanding and exciting harvest season. This position is responsible for providing essential support to the Cellar Master and Winemaker in all aspects of grape processing, fermentation management, and cellar operations. This is a physically demanding role that requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities include:
Grape Processing:
Operating and cleaning grape sorting tables, destemmers, and presses.
Assisting with fruit reception, sorting and crushing operations.

Fermentation Management:
Performing pump-overs and punch-downs of fermenting tanks and bins.
Monitoring fermentation temperatures and assisting with temperature control.
Taking samples for laboratory analysis.
Cleaning and sanitizing fermentation vessels.

Cellar Operations:
Washing and sanitizing tanks, barrels, hoses, pumps, and other winery equipment.
Executing barrel topping and stirring.
Performing routine cellar tasks such as racking, blending, and wine movements under supervision.
Assisting with barrel filling and emptying.
Maintaining a clean and organized cellar environment.
Performing general winery upkeep and maintenance as needed.

Safety & Compliance:
Adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
Following winery standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Maintaining accurate records of cellar activities as required.

Qualifications:

Experience:
Previous experience in a winery cellar, agricultural, or production environment is preferred but not required. We are willing to train enthusiastic individuals.

Skills:
Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Basic understanding of wine production principles is a plus.
Forklift certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb ladders for extended periods.
Ability to work flexible and long hours, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by the demands of harvest.
Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Other:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Reliable transportation to and from the winery.
A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
