Job Title: Winemaker
Department: Winemaking
Reports to: Director of Winemaking
Location: McFarland / Delano – On site
FLSA Status: Exempt

General Summary
The Winemaker is responsible for monitoring and assisting with the winemaking process from grape harvest through bottling or shipping. The Winemaker should maintain constant communication and feedback between Operations, Quality Control, and Winemaking.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•  Oversee daily winemaking activities and workflow in coordination with Operations.
•  Execute all winemaking operations to meet production targets, to maximize capacity and efficiency.
•  Ensure that all wines to be bottled, blended, or shipped are specification ready and match laboratory analysis, tasting, quality, and compliance standards.
•  Generate work orders related to all winemaking activities from harvest to finished wines for assigned programs, following ASV Wines Standard Operating Procedures, written protocols, and specifications.
•  Insure and direct the maintenance and health of the products as per the standard specifications.
•  Support and execute all General Manufacturing Practices, Allergen, CCOF, ISF food, California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance practices and regulations.
•  Provide winemaking technical support to the Director of Winemaking and production staff.
•  Contribute to improving wine quality, work efficiency and overall winemaking processes.
•  Supervise, control, mentor, and evaluate the Delano / McFarland Winemaking team.


Required Skills and Abilities
•  Must possess excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills.
•  Strong organizational, teambuilding, problem solving skills, attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
•  Self-motivated individuals with demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
•  Must have excellent math skills and accuracy with numbers and strong recordkeeping skills.
•  Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.


Minimum Qualifications
•  Bachelor’s in Enology, Chemistry or related field.
•  Minimum of five years of experience in winemaking, including cellar experience.
•  Experience with both the practical and technical aspects of the winemaking process and understand winemaking regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
•  Bilingual (English/Spanish).


Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms, climb up to 50 ft above ground or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. The employee is also sometimes required to drive company cars.

Work Environment
Work is generally performed in an indoor environment with minimal outdoor exposure. Will be exposed with typical winery chemical exposure and conditions. Typical noise level is moderate to loud.

Hours and Workdays
7:00AM- 4:00PM; Monday- Friday. Crush Hours will require overtime, off shift times, and six days work week.
