McMenamins Edgefield Winery & Cidery is seeking a Seasonal Lab Technician to join our team for the 2025 vintage!

We offer a unique harvest opportunity to work with a wide variety of grapes from Oregon and Washington. We process around 275 tons of grapes annually and produce still, sparkling, and fortified wines, as well as making hard cider. The winery is housed at McMenamins’ historic Edgefield property, located just 15 minutes outside Portland in Troutdale, OR. In addition to the winery and cidery, Edgefield is home to a historic hotel, three restaurants, multiple bars, a brewery, a distillery, a golf course, a spa, and much more. We are seeking a seasonal lab technician who is looking for hands-on experience to be a part of all the great things happening here!

Key Responsibilities
•  Assist winemakers with quality assurance
•  Process and analysis of vineyard samples
•  Intake analysis on all incoming fruit
•  Analyses will include Brix, pH, TA, Malic Acid, RS, Ammonia, PAN, ABV, and SO2
•  Daily temp and brix on all ferments
•  Sample collection from various vessels including bins, tanks, and barrels
•  Set up various bench-top trials, fining, additions, and blending
•  Ensure order, cleanliness, safety, and calibration of laboratory space and equipment
•  Maintain an organized lab book and update results into the winery database (Vintrace) and Excel
•  Possible cellar work when needed, predominantly involving packaging, fruit processing, punch downs, and/or additions
•  Participate and add to the McMenamins guest experience
•  Other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements
•  Strong knowledge of fermentation science with some winery or cidery experience
•  Some laboratory experience whether academic or applied
•  Strong attention to detail and ability to precisely follow directions
•  Enthusiasm for accuracy when it comes to lab results and the ability to solve technical/ analytical problems as they arise
•  Proficient computer skillset with experience using Excel, Word, and a production software
•  Ability to work well independently and multitask while keeping up with lab standards
•  Proficiency when working quickly and efficiently to produce lab results promptly
•  Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work and learn within constantly changing priorities
•  Self-motivated, industrious, honest, and a high level of integrity
•  A positive attitude and a demonstrated commitment to quality
•  Flexible schedule and willingness to work overtime
•  BS or AS in related field preferred
•  Fork-lift or pallet jack experience a plus, but not required
•  Must be 21 or older

Work Schedule
During the off-season, production hours are generally Monday- Friday, 9 am-5 pm, but occasionally will need to come in earlier or stay later. While in the off-season we will ask for a commitment of 4-5 days a week. During harvest (September and October) this position is expected to work 6 days a week 8- 12-hour shifts. Harvest day off will be a weekday chosen by the employee and will remain the same weekday during the 8 weeks. The start and end dates can be flexible depending on the season and workload. Ideally, start in August and run through late November.

Working Conditions
This position will work in areas of the winery that may be cold, warm, wet, slippery, and noisy. It will require someone that can understand and comply with all safety requirements that will include but are not limited to working around forklifts, customers, various gases, chemicals, etc. Additionally, willing to work indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions.

Physical Demands
To successfully perform the job responsibilities the employee must be able to be on their feet for long periods, talk, hear, and have specific vision abilities. Must be comfortable climbing ladders and working at various heights. Able to perform repetitive movements, including bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, and stooping. The employee must be able to safely lift or move items over 50lbs.
