Spirits & Wine Buyer – Full Time

About the Role
Since 1967, McCabes Wine & Spirits has been an Upper East Side destination for curated, premium wines and spirits. As a fast-paced, well-established, and actively expanding retail store, we’re hiring an experienced Spirits & Wine Buyer to join our team.
This is a hands-on position that combines product curation with high-level guest interaction. The ideal candidate brings passion, deep industry knowledge, thrives in a collaborative environment, has a track record of ordering volume deals (e.g., Casamigos, Grey Goose, Tito’s), and building lasting client relationships. You'll be joining a motivated and seasoned team at a time of meaningful growth, with ownership committed to the future of the store and its employees.
Key Responsibilities
Buying & Product Curation
• Lead buying for all spirits categories, from value to premium; additional wine buying responsibilities to be assigned by region
• Navigate volume pricing, secure allocated products, and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and distributors
• Monitor product performance and inventory levels to support profitability and rotation
• Participate in tastings and evaluation of new products for in-store and online placement
Sales & Client Service
• Deliver exceptional service on the sales floor, and via phone, email, and e-commerce platforms
• Build and retain relationships with collectors, regulars, and corporate clients
• Provide personalized recommendations across a range of categories and budgets
Store Operations
• Assist in preparing quotes and fulfilling large or corporate orders
• Receive, price, and merchandise product with attention to accuracy and presentation
• Operate POS system and participate in daily operations, including opening and closing
• Contribute to a safe, clean, and team-oriented store environment
Who You Are
• Minimum 3 years' experience as a buyer in a wine & spirits retail environment
• Strong spirits knowledge across commercial and high-end categories; wine knowledge essential
• Advanced certification preferred (e.g., WSET Level 3+, CSS, CMS, SWE)
• Comfortable posting on social media and may be willing to appear on camera for brand content (e.g., product features, tastings, behind-the-scenes)
• Track record of revenue growth through strategic buying and strong vendor relationships
• Highly organized, personable, and comfortable with multitasking
• Proficient in Excel, POS systems, and other retail technologies
Schedule & Physical Requirements
• Flexible availability including evenings, weekends (Sundays required), and holidays
• 40 regular hours per week with occasional overtime as approved
• Ability to stand for long periods, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs
• Willingness to address store needs outside of business hours, if necessary
