Host at Luxury Winery (Part Time, Tips+Commision)

Job Description:

Davis Estates is growing, and we are expanding our team to include a few additional Estate Hosts for weekends. Saturday availability is required, and the ideal candidate can also occasionally cover Fridays, Mondays, or mid-week shifts. We would consider the right candidate for a full-time position during the busy season, if desired. As we continue to grow in 2025, this role will be essential to ensuring our guests receive the highest level of luxury hospitality.

The successful candidate will be high-energy, a self-starter, and a team player. We are looking for someone with a professional demeanor, strong organizational skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a passion for providing outstanding guest experiences. This person should enjoy building relationships, talking to guests about wine and food, and having fun while delivering exceptional service.

Davis Estates is a family-run, by-appointment-only winery located halfway between St. Helena and Calistoga. We offer guests a variety of unique experiences, including chef-curated wine and food pairings, in-depth estate tours, AVA Cabernet comparison tastings, and our ultimate five-course wine and food VIP experience.

The Ideal Part-Time Candidate Will:
•  Primarily be available to work weekends
•  Be passionate about hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences
•  Have the flexibility to assist on occasional weekdays when needed

Estate Host Duties and Responsibilities:
•  Effectively sell our wines through genuine engagement and relationship-building with guests
•  Conduct all aspects of the sale, from bottle to delivery
•  Anticipate guest needs and exceed expectations
•  Host educational tastings for all guests, including Club Members, Trade, and VIPs, in a small luxury setting
•  Provide a friendly and sincere reception and farewell, using guest names
•  Present Wine Club features and benefits clearly and enthusiastically
•  Book guest experiences in a timely, professional manner via phone, in person, and email
•  Follow and execute all opening and closing procedures
•  Maintain wine inventory and organization within the Wine Storage Room and Tasting Room
•  Set up and break down glassware, plates, water, and marketing materials
•  Clear guest tables, buff glassware as needed, and restock materials

Qualifications and Requirements:
•  Experience in wine sales, hospitality, or events, preferably within a luxury brand setting
•  Formal wine training (Sommelier certification, WSET, or CSW) is a plus, but we are willing to train the right person
•  Passion and knowledge of the relationship between wine and food, with the ability to describe it confidently to guests
•  Proven sales track record and the ability to thrive in a small, team-oriented environment
•  Familiarity with Napa Valley restaurants and winery experiences is a plus
•  Genuine passion for building relationships with guests and fellow team members
•  Willingness to help wherever needed
•  Working knowledge of POS systems (eCellars experience is a plus)
•  Excellent verbal, written, and in-person communication skills
•  Strong attention to detail and commitment to providing a seamless guest experience

Education, Training, and Additional Requirements:
•  AA or BA degree is helpful, but not required
•  Previous experience at a winery, hotel/resort, or restaurant is preferred
•  Solid knowledge of food and wine, with a desire for continual learning
•  Ability to remain calm and professional during peak season visits
•  Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for managing reservations
•  Ability to interact with all staff and guests in a positive and professional manner
•  Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and POS systems (eCellars experience is a plus)
•  Confidence speaking in front of groups
•  Positive attitude and ability to work effectively within a team
•  Must be at least 21 years old
•  Ability to lift 50 pounds
•  Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods
•  Comfortable working in a busy, high-end weekend tasting room environment
•  Experience with luxury wine brands and facilities is a plus
•  Valid California Driver's License
•  Ability to obtain a California Food Handler's Permit
