Retail Wine Shop Manager / Sales Person (New Shop)

We are opening an exciting new retail wine shop dedicated to offering a curated selection of exceptional wines from around the world. We aim to create a welcoming and educational environment for wine enthusiasts, from curious beginners to seasoned collectors. We are looking for a passionate and experienced individual to launch and manage our retail operations, drive sales, and build strong relationships within the community.

Job Summary:
The Retail Wine Shop Manager / Sales Person will be instrumental in establishing and growing our new wine shop. This dynamic role requires a blend of hands-on sales, strategic inventory management, and relationship building. The ideal candidate will be a wine enthusiast with a proven track record in retail sales, a deep understanding of wine, and the ability to create engaging experiences for our customers both in-store and through off-premise sales.

Key Responsibilities:
Retail Operations & Sales:
Manage all day-to-day retail operations, ensuring a clean, organized, and inviting shop environment.
Greet and assist customers, providing exceptional service and expert wine recommendations based on their preferences and budget.
Drive in-store sales through proactive engagement and product knowledge.
Handle cash and credit card transactions accurately using a Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
Develop and execute strategies to meet and exceed sales targets.

Inventory & Procurement:
Oversee all aspects of inventory management, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and organizing wine.
Maintain optimal stock levels to meet customer demand while minimizing overstock and spoilage.
Conduct regular inventory counts and reconciliation.
Forge relationships with distributors and wineries to source a diverse and high-quality product selection.

Tastings & Events:
Design, promote, and execute unique and engaging in-store wine tasting events (e.g., themed tastings, winemaker visits, educational seminars).
Develop wine flights and tasting notes to enhance the customer experience.
Off-Premise Sales & Business Development:
Identify and pursue opportunities for off-premise sales to local restaurants, hotels, and businesses.
Build and maintain strong relationships with restaurant buyers and hospitality professionals to expand our wholesale presence.
Conduct tastings and presentations for potential restaurant accounts.

Customer Relationship Management:
Cultivate strong relationships with regular customers, fostering loyalty and repeat business.
Potentially assist in developing a wine club program or customer loyalty initiatives.

Administrative & Compliance:
Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for various administrative tasks, reporting, and communication.
Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding alcohol sales and storage.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in retail sales, preferably within the wine, spirits, or luxury goods industry.
Demonstrated ability to drive sales and meet revenue targets.
Familiarity with inventory management and ordering processes.
Strong knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and vintages, with a passion for continuous learning.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse customers.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Experience with Point-of-Sale (POS) systems is essential.
Ability to lift and move cases of wine (up to 40 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
Must be at least 21 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW), Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) certification (Level 2 or higher), or equivalent.
Experience in a new business launch or opening.
Existing relationships with local restaurants or hospitality accounts.
