Position Summary:
Lecavalier Cellars is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Winemaker to lead all facets of wine production. This is a hands-on role involving daily work in the cellar and direct oversight of all winemaking processes. The Winemaker will work closely with our Consulting Winemaker to guide wine style, ensure quality, and support the evolution of our portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Wine Production & Quality Control
- Lead all winemaking operations from grape intake through bottling, including fermentation, blending, aging, stabilization, and filtration.
- Actively perform cellar work alongside staff, modeling best practices and attention to detail.
- Collaborate with the Consulting Winemaker on stylistic goals, blending trials, and vintage planning.
- Conduct lab analyses and use data to guide production decisions and quality control.
Cellar & Facility Operations
- Manage day-to-day operations for winemaking, ensuring precision and timely execution
- Supervise and train cellar team and harvest interns; ensure safe and efficient workflow.
- Maintain clean, organized, and fully compliant production areas.
- Coordinate bottling logistics, barrel programs, and product movements in Vintrace.
Strategic Development & Innovation
- Work with ownership and the Consulting Winemaker to refine and grow the wine portfolio.
- Provide input on technical tasting notes, storytelling, and product development.
- Stay informed of industry trends and sustainability practices.
Regulatory Compliance & Recordkeeping
- Ensure TTB, CDFA, and OSHA compliance with accurate documentation and reporting.
- Manage and update production records using Vintrace winery software.
Vendor & Budget Oversight
- Source materials and equipment; maintain vendor relationships.
- Track winemaking costs and stay within budget parameters.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Enology, Viticulture, or equivalent industry experience.
- 5+ years of winemaking experience with a strong foundation in cellar operations.
- Excellent working knowledge of fermentation science, sanitation, and wine chemistry.
- Collaborative approach to working with the Consultant Winemaker and production team.
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Vintrace required.
- Forklift certified or willing to become certified.
Work Environment & Requirements:
- Physically demanding role with frequent lifting, standing, and cellar work.
- Must be able to lift 60 lbs
- Must be available for extended hours during harvest and bottling.
- Weekends required for production and occasional evening events.
