Job Description:
Family-owned Russian River Winery seeking a Harvest LAB TECH. This position requires superb working knowledge of analytical equipment operation and upkeep to ensure that our winemakers are receiving the highest level of accuracy and consistency from the lab. The ideal candidate will work closely with winemaking and cellar staff to ensure quality control of the product.
Position Purpose:
The Harvest Lab Intern will be responsible for helping the Lab Manager with any lab related tasks under this position’s role. This position is centered around performing analysis to support wine quality and fermentation-related cellar operations. Following standard operating procedures, this position utilizes wet-bench chemistry, analytical instrumentation, performs data entry, and samples wine and juice as needed. This position is under the direct supervision of the Lab Manager for daily instructions and Assistant Winemaker for general purposes.
Season Timeline:
This position begins in early August and ends early December 2025, this is subject to change dependent upon harvest demands.
Responsibilities:
• Prioritize directions and instructions from the Lab Manager.
• Notify Lab Manager of any issues with analysis
• Perform daily harvest analysis in a timely manner
• Maintain and operate the SPICA
• Sample wine/juice in various parts of facility from tanks and barrels
• Sample preparation for performing analysis.
• Data entry and tracking using Microsoft Excel and Vintrace.
• Daily set-up and calibration of instrumentation
• Prepare solutions and maintain chemicals
• Assists and performs Bottling QC.
• Routine cleaning and preventative maintenance of lab equipment
• Daily shut down of instruments and prep laboratory for the next day
• Keeps lab environment and its equipment safe, organized, and tidy.
• Always follows company safety policy
Qualifications:
• Previous experience in a wine lab is preferred
• Effective communication and organizational skills
• Attention to detail
• Works well independently and in a team environment
• Ability to prioritize work while adapting to changing priorities
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Shift work and weekends required
• Brings a positive attitude and eagerness to learn!
