Are you ready to be part of a sustainable winemaking journey? Monterey Wine Company is seeking a Seasonal Lab/QC Technician to support our harvest operations from August through December. This is an exciting opportunity to join a passionate and innovative team focused on quality, sustainability, and cutting-edge winemaking technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Lab Duties:
• Conduct analytical testing on grapes and wine per the lab schedule: ethanol, TA, pH, VA, TSO2, FSO2, YAN, ML, RS, etc.
• Perform daily Brix and temperature monitoring during primary fermentation.
• Execute yeast/nutrient additions and enzymatic testing as directed.
• Record all data in the WMDB winemaking software.
• Calibrate lab equipment and prepare reagents to ensure accurate results.
• Collect grape and wine samples, and coordinate third-party lab analyses when needed.
• Carry out bottling readiness tests (Bentonite, Cold Stability, Filterability, DO/CO2/SO2 adjustments).
• Support SO2 additions and monthly topping routines.
• Maintain lab cleanliness and assist with additive preparations.
• Track and replenish lab inventory as needed.
• Maintain sustainability records related to facility operations.
Quality Control (QC) Duties:
• Inspect packaging quality during bottling: corks, capsules, labels, and case handling.
• Conduct bottling QC tests: Alcohol, Free SO2, CO2, DO, fill height, vacuum levels.
• Ensure daily case counts and inventory accuracy.
• Prepare and ship samples as needed.
• Support special projects, pond sampling, and general cleaning tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
• B.S. degree in a science-related field.
• 3+ years of lab experience preferred (wine lab experience highly valued).
• Understanding of grape/wine chemistry and standard lab techniques.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to follow protocols.
• Team-oriented, reliable, and flexible.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods.
• Comfortable working at heights and in variable conditions.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule during harvest (overtime and weekends as needed).
• Proficient in English.
