Position Summary:
The Field Manager leads a dynamic 8-person sales team within Northern California North Bay & Sacramento Region: Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Sacramento and additional northern counties as needed. This position is responsible for developing sales representatives and sales strategies, increasing producer awareness, distribution, and market share throughout the region and reaching sales and revenue targets. The Field Manager reports directly to the Vice President of Sales, and coordinates efforts as necessary with the Portfolio Managers. The successful candidate will need to meet the requirements and qualifications and have prior experience in the wine industry.
Responsibilities:
Major Duties
• Develops and maintains productive sales organization through effective communication and “field work” with the sales representatives and customers, as well as the Vice President of Sales and Portfolio Managers.
• Field Manager is expected to spend a minimum of four full days a week in the market making presentations, mentoring representatives, educating customers, and calling on in-house accounts.
• Supervises assigned sales representatives, monitors, and works to achieve individual and regional territory sales and distribution targets and maximize incentive performance.
• Assists and supports sales representatives in identifying new prospects & expanding existing relationships; implements customer/sales incentive programs – all efforts to grow the sales & account base in each territory.
• Responsible for providing sales training and monitoring for each sales representative’s overall knowledge of the portfolio.
• Organize and schedule weekly sales planning and evaluation meetings with each individual representative.
• Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings with each sales representative to review performance.
• Conduct annual reviews of the region’s sales representatives.
• Attend all sales meetings, company functions, and relevant sales management meetings.
• Responsible for development and execution of trade and supplier events: tastings, luncheons, winemaker dinners, retailer consumer events, etc.
• Provides weekly follow-up and sales plans to the Manager.
• Conducts and organizes supplier market visits as needed.
• Weekly information will include the sales representative’s calling efforts, market visit reports, target lists, national accounts call, and the servicing of any retail chains.
• Analyzes regional sales activity reports including weekly and monthly Sales Representative sales target reports, samples usage, returns/refusals, and distribution/placement targets or initiatives.
• Provides timely briefing to Manager with specific action plans as necessary or as requested.
• Develop deep knowledge, understanding, and passion for the portfolio.
Requirements/Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years of fine wine sales experience with a demonstrated record of performance and regional sales force management experience.
• Proven sales ability and key account contacts within the region.
• Experience in selling wines from Europe, CA, OR, WA, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to direct and motivate sales staff.
• Strong analytical, written, and verbal skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Reside within the central portion of the region.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing.
• Ability to lift 40 lbs.
