Weis Vineyards is seeking a full-time assistant winemaker in addition to a seasonal harvest intern. Due to the size of our operation, these will be a very hands-on position with opportunities to assist in almost all aspects of the business. You will be directly assisting the owner/head winemaker in all facets needed.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• General cellar management & tracking using InnoVint software
• Delegating tasks to the winemaking team
• Wine racking & transfers
• Wine additions & stabilization
• Equipment cleaning & sanitation
• Barrel preparation & filling
• Punch downs & pump overs
• Running the bottling line and bottling line maintenance
• Maintaining and exercising safety control measures
• Assisting in the vineyard as needed
Qualifications:
• Minimum of one year wine-making experience
• Degree or coursework in winemaking, enology or related field is strongly encouraged
• Experience operating a forklift is required
• Experience with InnoVint cellar management software is a plus
• Experience with distilling is a plus
• Mechanical skills (basic maintenance and repairs) are a plus
• Candidate should have a willingness to learn new skills and expand their knowledge
• Candidate must be a quick learner and detail oriented
• Candidate must be physically able to perform all cellar duties and vineyard work (able to lift 50+ lbs)
• Must be committed to working a full schedule and extra if needed during the harvest season
• Must possess the ability to multitask and work in a fast paced, hardworking environment
• Ability to work flexible and extended hours on short notice
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
