Patz & Hall has produced world class Pinot noir and Chardonnay since 1988. Our mission is to create delicious, site-driven wines by cultivating enduring relationships with world class growers who farm the best sites for Pinot noir and Chardonnay.
In March of 2024, the winery returned to its roots as a family operation and is once again owned by James Hall.
Patz & Hall makes all its wines in a state-of-the-art winery in Sonoma designed by Winemaker James Hall. This purpose-built winery allows the Patz & Hall team complete control during every step of the winemaking process.
Key Responsibilities
Lab
- Design and implement sampling schedules based upon the time of year and many stages of wine’s evolution.
-Perform analysis including but not limited to pH, TA, VA, ML, RS, Free and Total SO2, Ethanol, Brix, turbidity, CO2 etc
-Maintain calibration schedules for in-house lab equipment: Y15, pH probe, alcolyzer, DO meter, etc
- Coordinate analysis going to outside vendors
- Act as point person for bottling QC and inventory.
- Work with winemaker and cellar master to log bottled wine and coordinate shipping
- Manage laboratory data within Innovint; utilize excel to track data
- Review data and collaborate with winemaking
- Hire, train and manage a seasonal lab tech during harvest
- Manage incoming and outgoing BOL’s within NetSuite
-Write and execute work orders (bottling, bulk wine transfer, BOL's) in enterprise software (NetSuite)
-Assist with new item set-up and purchase order receivals within enterprise software (NetSuite)
-Manage inventory counts
Winemaking
- Coordinate harvest planning with winemaking and director of grower relations; track ripeness across all vineyard sites; assess juice samples with winemaking team
- Track, order and manage winemaking/ production supplies
- Assist with work order generation & data entry
- Contribute to racking and blending operation; integrate with cellar operations when time allows
- Plan, curate and participate in competitive trade tastings
- Prepare and participate in bench trials
- Represent winery at tastings for trade, technical or consumer group meetings
- Contribute to the teaching and management of seasonal harvest interns
- Lend support to cellar team in full range of cellar activities from harvest to bottling
About you
Minimum Age requirement of 21 when working within winemaking.
Some supervisory skills.
B.S. degree in Enology, Viticulture, Food Science or related field
Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
Must have the ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English
Must possess strong organizational skills as well as high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Highly preferred experience and competency in Excel, Word, NetSuite, and Innovint.
Must be able to work extended hours during the harvest season and during bottling runs
History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct
Forklift certification/experience is preferred
Physical ability to lift & move 50lbs; standing for long periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching.
