The Harvest Production Intern supports Winemaking and Production teams, which allow for broad exposure to winery organization and logistics. They ensure fermentations are progressing properly, work orders are being followed and executed and keep the wine tracking database up-to-date and accurate. The internship begins in early July and continues through November/December, depending on workload.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assists winemaking in initiating and monitoring pump-over schedules
• Monitors temperatures throughout fermentation to ensure set points are where they should be and adjust as needed
• Creating work orders and instructions for cellar team
• Perform such duties, tasks, or projects as required or requested by Winemaking
• Maintain accurate bulk wine processing, inventory, and compliance records required by federal and state agencies.
• Input and review all work orders provided by Cellar. Communicate system needs for work order entry and guidance to cellar staff
• Close and balance inventory records monthly
• Ensure integrity of bulk wine records for receiving/depleting; audit varietal/vintage and alcohol percentages for accuracy.
• Review weigh tags to ensure they match what has been entered into the system for tonnage tracking and reporting.
• Document bulk wine shipments and receivals. Prepare Bill of Lading for bulk wine shipments.
• Manage receipt and disposal of all wine storage containers including barrels, portable tanks, kegs, and totes, including managing annual physical inventory and its records.
• Maintain cellar inventory in database system is up to date and accurate to what is physically on-site.
• Assist Production Lab with sampling and/or workload when needed.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree, college level coursework in Enology, Viticulture, or related field.
• Previous experience in winery production with an understanding of winery movements and processes
• Ability to work overtime and weekends as required by harvest schedule, especially from August to December
• Detail oriented and organized, ability to multi-task and prioritize
• Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Computer skills to include MS Excel, Word and Outlook
• Experience with InnoVint is a plus
• Must possess a valid CA driver’s license
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear effectively. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste and smell. The employee must frequently and safely climb a ladder while carrying some equipment. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 45 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and to perform analysis based on differences in color, precise number reading and meniscus level.
