As the Assistant Tasting Room Manager, you will play a key leadership role in delivering an exceptional and memorable guest experience. Working closely with the Tasting Room Manager, you will support the daily operations of the Tasting Room while leading and inspiring a high-performing team. Your focus will be on optimizing service, driving sales, and upholding the brand standards of Rodney Strong Wine Estates. You will use your extensive knowledge of wine to guide and educate our guests on wine selections, pairings, and overall wine service. Your expertise in wine and exceptional service skills will elevate our guests' experience and contribute to the success of our establishment. You’ll also help ensure operational excellence by managing staff performance, developing team training programs and SOPs to enhance both guest and employee experiences. You will be responsible for daily sales goals, email sign-ups, wine club sign-ups and other KPIs as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned as needed):
Collaborate with management to design promotions and sales incentives to increase revenue, email sign-ups and club membership signups.
Ensure team members deliver consistent, elevated experiences aligned with RSWE’s brand values.
Provide exceptional service across all guest interactions, whether in person, by phone, or via email.
Educate staff on wine knowledge
Leverage your WSET/Somm level certification to host VIP trade visits, media and key buyers with a special level of service and wine education
In collaboration with the Tasting Room Manager, achieves service, sales, club acquisition, and profitability goals; plans properly and motivates staff to achieve these goals.
Support the Tasting Room Manager in scheduling, supervising, and motivating the team to exceed hospitality standards.
Identify and report performance or behavioral issues; provide coaching and feedback as needed.
Conduct new hire orientations and train team members in daily procedures and point-of-sale operations.
Support Events, working hand-in-hand with other DTC leadership.
Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Step in as acting Tasting Room Manager when needed.
Oversee all opening and closing procedures in accordance with company protocols.
Maintain and monitor hospitality calendars, email inboxes, and appointment schedules.
Manage administrative duties such as ordering supplies, handling shipping logistics, and overseeing sales and performance reporting.
Manage, execute and lead outreach program.
Provide technical troubleshooting and support for POS systems, working in coordination with IT.
Monitor labor and wine costs while maintaining inventory and controlling expenditures.
Oversee monthly inventory counts and ensure proper stock levels across all sales channels and storage areas.
Maintain merchandise inventory and monitor all shipping operations, including handling claims and returns.
Enforce company policies and standard operating procedures (SOP).
Audit Tasting Room transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Accurately manage all no-charge transactions and POS adjustments.
Ensure that the appearance and cleanliness of the Tasting Room, Terrace, and associated spaces meet RSWE’s standards.
Handle and resolve guest concerns with professionalism and care.
Allocation of Time: 75% on the floor, 25% off the floor
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2 years of supervisory experience required.
WSET 2 or Sommelier certification preferred
Minimum 4 year tasting room experience
Proven successful sales skills.
Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to multi-task in a rapid and fast paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills able to speak effectively before groups.
Ability to work weekends, nights and holidays as needed
Must be able to lift 40lbs.
Must be 21 years of age.
