Assistant Vineyard Manager, WeatherEye Vineyards
WeatherEye is an ultra-premium vineyard in the Red Mountain AVA in Eastern Washington. The WeatherEye Assistant Vineyard Manager will assist the Vineyard Manager in all aspects of vineyard operations, including vineyard maintenance, crew management, safety, and equipment operation for the production of world class grapes. This role involves hands-on work, record-keeping, and potentially assisting with data analysis and long-term planning.
Key Responsibilities:
• Vineyard Maintenance:
Assist in the day-to-day activities of the vineyard, including pruning, vine training, canopy management, pest and disease scouting, and harvest preparations.
• Crew Management:
Supervising vineyard crews, managing labor schedules, and ensuring safety and compliance with company policies. Working knowledge of Spanish is preferred.
• Equipment Operation:
Assisting with the operation of vineyard equipment, including tractors, RTVs, and sprayers.
• Data Management:
Maintain accurate records of vineyard activities, including phenology tracking, crop estimates, and soil and tissue tests.
• Data Analysis:
Assisting with data collection and analysis for vineyard operations, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Safety:
Ensuring a safe work environment for all employees and adhering to safety protocols.
• Other Tasks:
May include assisting with harvest, winemaking activities, and other tasks as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
A college degree in viticulture is preferred or biology/chemistry is preferred, along with previous experience in vineyard management/viticulture.
5+ years experience and a strong understanding of vineyard practices and equipment/machinery, and experience in leading crews
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Communication and Teamwork:
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team is essential.
Organizational and Time Management:
Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
Positive Attitude:
A positive attitude and willingness to work long hours, especially during harvest.
