The Wine Country, an award-winning independent retail wine store in the Long Beach CA area, is looking for a wine buyer for our North America and Southern Hemisphere wine departments. Our store specializes in family-owned products which require a more hands-on approach to sales and marketing. Yet we are pragmatic: we do what works.

This person must be customer-oriented, friendly, collaborative and capable of physical work. Most important is a desire to help our customers discover pleasurable products that will bring them back again and again. Curiosity and study are qualities we look for. Duties include acquiring, marketing and selling quality products in their respective price ranges. This includes writing descriptions on every product for our website, shelf-talkers, wine blog and e-mail communication, and reviewing each product for accuracy, including vintage, descriptions and spelling. Buyer must also conceive and drive promotion for compelling and successful tasting events.

Our store has a licensed tasting area where we host two tastings per week, one on Friday evenings, and one on Saturday afternoons. Candidate must be able to work weekends and occasional Friday evenings. Regular store hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. except for Friday nights which end between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Because we are family-owned, we all pitch in to help one another, whether it is cashiering, cleaning, doing carry-outs, emptying trash cans, etc.
