We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Winemaker & Production Manager to join our team at a large-scale winery located near Fishers, Indiana. This in-person, full-time role is ideal for a passionate and technically skilled individual who thrives in a fast-paced production environment focused on crafting high-quality wines and innovative wine.
Position Overview:
The Winemaker & Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the full scope of winery operations—from grape to bottle. This includes managing custom crush projects, leading production schedules, overseeing bottling line operations, and maintaining the highest standards of quality control. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of winemaking processes, a hands-on approach to leadership, and the ability to manage both people and processes efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Winemaking Operations:
Manage all facets of production, including fruit intake, fermentation, blending, aging, and bottling.
Product Innovation:
Develop and test new wine and wine cocktail formulations while monitoring ongoing product development.
Quality Control:
Conduct regular lab testing and sensory evaluations to uphold rigorous quality standards.
Team Leadership:
Supervise and collaborate with cellar, vineyard, and production staff. Train, develop, and guide direct reports.
Production & Vineyard Management:
Create and execute production and harvest schedules. Coordinate with vineyard team on fruit readiness and quality.
Maintenance & Logistics:
Oversee maintenance of production equipment and facilities. Manage logistics related to shipping, receiving, and inventory control.
Process Optimization:
Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and maintain product consistency and quality.
Compliance & Safety:
Ensure all operations follow federal, state, and local regulations while maintaining a safe and sustainable work environment.
Client Relations:
Serve as the primary contact for custom crush clients, offering technical guidance and updates throughout the production cycle.
Reporting & Collaboration:
Partner with the Director of Winemaking to align strategies and ensure company and client expectations are met.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience in custom crush winemaking or multi-client production.
- Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Viticulture, or related field preferred (experience may substitute for education).
- Minimum of 5 years of winemaking experience, with at least 2 years in high-volume or custom crush environments.
- Strong understanding of fermentation science, quality control protocols, and cellar operations.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing teams and production workflows.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Familiarity with winemaking software and laboratory testing tools is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with bottling lines and production equipment is a plus.
