The Enologist supports all aspects of the winemaking process under the direction of the Winemaker and Associate Winemaker. Key responsibilities include lab analysis, quality control, data management, and ensuring the production of ultra-premium wines. During harvest, duties expand to vineyard sampling, fermentation monitoring, and assisting with cellar operations. This role also plays a key part in fostering a positive team environment and maintaining open, effective communication across the production team.

Duties/Responsibilities:
1) Laboratory:
• Perform routine analysis including but not limited to FSO2, pH, TA, ethanol, VA, density, brix, ML, RS, A280.
• Coordinate analysis with outside labs as needed.
• Read, interpret and record analytical results accurately and efficiently.
• Prepare reagents and maintain an inventory of all lab supplies.
• Schedule maintenance of lab equipment and ensure accuracy/precision of all data.
• Perform benchtop trials and create blends as requested.
• Maintain an organized, safe, and clean working environment.
• Documentation of current lab protocols.
• Collaborates with Winemaker and Associate Winemaker on lab experiments and documents results.
2) Quality Control:
• Set-up and clean-up cork evaluation program.
• Monitor quality control on the bottling line: work on the line to address any quality control issues.
• Perform quality control on incoming bottling supplies.
• Execute the quality control program for the incoming new barrels.
3) Data Management:
• Record keeping and data entry.
• Compilation of historical data and digitalization of paper records.
4) Harvest Duties:
• Assist Winemaker in vineyard sampling.
• Process all vineyard samples and perform routine analysis on juice.
• Perform routine lab analysis on incoming lots, fermenting must, and finished wine.
• Daily density and temperature monitoring on fermenting tanks and barrels.
• Prepare and execute additions to tanks and barrels.
• Assist with pumpovers and punchdowns.
• Organize and order harvest meals.
• Must be willing to work 6 days/week during harvest.
• Other duties may include light cellar work and assistance with tasting sessions.

Education and Experience:
• B.S. in Enology or related field preferred.
• 2+ years production related experience with laboratory focus.
• Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook. Experience with Innovint a plus.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or phone.
• Proficient in typing and data entry with frequent use of a keyboard.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Ability to reach, bend, and twist for filing, organizing documents, or accessing office supplies.
• Clear verbal communication for phone calls and in-person meetings.
