HARVEST ENOLOGIST FOR CINDER WINERY

Join us for an exciting opportunity to make wine in a small and emerging region in the Pacific Northwest. We are a 10,000 case winery focused on producing premium wines out of the Snake River Valley. Our urban winery is located 5 minutes from downtown Boise. Here you will find a passionate team looking for an individual to join our team as a Harvest Enologist for the 2024 vintage. The position will approximately last from the end of August to end of November.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of the Assistant Winemaker, the harvest enologist is responsible for helping the winemaking team by directly assisting with lab work and general day to day operations in the cellar. As the growing season progresses, this position will also assist in the vineyards with maturity sampling and pest and disease scouting. Generally working 8-10 hours a day, 6 days a week once harvest gets started.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lab tasks (covering but not limited to):
o pH
o Titrations (for various assays)
o Free SO2 by aeration oxidation
o Enzymatic assays: Glu+Fru / FAN + PAAN / Malic
o Assist with acid addition trials.

•  Tasting of fermenting lots daily to check for common wine faults
•  Grape sampling from vineyards throughout Snake River Valley and contracted growers
•  Working as a team and independently in the lab, measuring Brix/Temperatures of fermentations twice daily
•  Performing daily juice, and wine analyses
•  Help load lab data entries into winery database
•  The individual will also be asked to assist with cellar operations as needed with cap management, inoculations and additions, wine transfers, etc
•  Assist Winemakers with making certain decisions about the wines (press timing, pumpovers, oxygen introduction, etc.) to achieve the stylistic goals set by the Winemaker
•  These daily tasks will be performed around a core of cleaning duties, preceded, and followed by more cleaning


BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE

Prior winery and vineyard experience and/or education in related field preferred, but not required.
Must have ability to communicate effectively with good skills in reading, writing, and basic math. Must be able to work safely around equipment, and laboratory chemicals. Individuals selected for this position must be reliable, detail-oriented, and have good work ethic.
Must be able to work varying shifts, weekends and overtime as needed particularly during the harvest season.
Must be able to provide proof of ability to work in the United States.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to able to climb ladders safely. Required to stand for extended periods of time, routinely required to reach with hands and arms, sit, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and able to lift and move up to 50lbs of weight.
