Job Description:

Fairwinds Estate Winery in Calistoga seeks hardworking, self-motivated individual to join our winemaking team. The enologist is responsible to run all lab analysis as needed, develop the schedule and follow all lots in the lab, from crush, fermentation and aging, all the way through bottling, keep all lab records and enter work order transactions into software system, help manage SO2-topping and cellar work schedule, budget and acquire supplies for the lab and any planning for new equipment, as needed. Work with interns during crush to oversee crush-fermentation monitoring and additions, and assist in cellar duties, as well as anything and everything in a growing company and operation. Involved in tasting, blending, assessing and maintaining quality from crush to bottling, setting up bench trials and blends. Opportunity to help as a new brand is developed along with a new showplace winery, all allowing room for growth and input.

Qualifications:
Must be well organized, able to multi-task, perform under pressure and take on some management responsibilities. Experience in wine lab analysis, especially SO2, pH, TA, VA, and enzymatics on a spectrophotometer as backup to two automated analyzers (FTIR panels as well as auto titrator for most analysis), and the ability to learn other analysis quickly and to work efficiently, accurately and precisely under minimal supervision. Ability to self-analyze results and trouble shoot and develop calibration and curves. Ability to interact and communicate well with a cellar team and cellar supervisor and take leadership on some tasks. Physically fit and able to climb ladders and catwalks and lift 50 pounds. Must have several vintages of experience already, preferably two plus years at a winery in a similar position.
