Job Description:

Davis Estates Winery is expanding our staff to include a couple additional Estate Hosts on the weekends. Saturday availability is a must and the ideal person can cover for an occasional Friday/Monday or mid week. As we continue to grow in 2024, this position will be key to ensuring our guests receive the highest level of luxury hospitality. It is essential that the successful candidate be high energy, a self-starter and a team player. We are looking for someone with a professional demeanor, strong organizational skills, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to prioritize workload. We are a family run business and a smaller "by appointment" only winery located between St. Helena and Calistoga. We offer our guests a variety of experience options that include chef curated wine and food pairings, in-depth tours of our beautiful estate, AVA Cabernet comparison tastings, as well as our ultimate VIP experience.

The perfect part-time candidate will be able to work mostly weekends.

Estate Host duties and responsibilities

Effectively selling our wines through engagement and development of relationships with our guest.
Conducting each sale from bottle to delivery.
Anticipate guest needs and find ways to exceed guest expectations.
Hosting educational tastings for all guests including Club Members, Trade and VIP’s in a small luxury setting.
A friendly and sincere reception and farewell, using guest names.
Providing a clear presentation of the Wine Club features and benefits to our guests.
Booking guest experiences in a timely professional manner via phone, in-person and email.
Follow and execute on the opening and closing procedures.
Maintaining wine inventory and organization within the Wine Storage Room and Tasting Room.
Set up and breakdown of the glassware, plates, water and proper marketing materials.
Clearing guest tables, buffing glassware and restocking materials as required.

What does it take to be considered for this position?

Experience in a proven wine sales/hospitality/events environment, preferably within the luxury brands market.
Individuals with formal wine training a plus. (Sommelier, WSET, or CSW.) However, we are willing to train the right person.
Strong passion and knowledge of the relationship of wine and food and how to describe it to the guest.
Proven sales track record with a strong ability to work within a small team environment.
Genuine passion for building relationships with people, both guest and fellow team members.
A willingness to help where help is needed.
Working knowledge of POS programs, Preferable ECellars
Excellent communication skills, both over the phone, in person and written.
A person that understands that details matter and pays close attention to managing the details of guest experience.

Education, Training and Other Requirements:

AA or BA degree helpful, but not required
Past experience at a Winery, Hotel/Resort or Restaurant is preferred but not required.
Must have knowledge of food and wine with a desire to continually learn new information and be willing to share information with others.
Be able to remain calm and professional during peak season visitations.
Be detail oriented and have the ability to manage and maintain reservations within an organizational system.
Interact with all staff and guests with a positive and professional manner.
Proficiency in POS systems, (E cellar experience a plus) Microsoft Office, and Excel.
Ability to speak in front of groups with comfort and ease.
Must have a positive attitude and outlook with the ability to work within a team environment.
Must be at least 21 years old.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Must be able to work in a sitting and or standing position for long periods of time.
Must be able to work in a busy weekend tasting room environment.
Experience with a luxury wine brand and facility a plus.
Valid California Driver's License.
Ability to obtain a CA food handlers permit.
