Created in 2005, Stama Winery is focused or creating wines with a sense of place from Lodi AVA, and surrounding area. Our new facility construction was completed in 2015.
This full time, year around Cellar Master position is an opportunity to work with the latest equipment in all facets of high-end lots production, driven winemaking. We are a small team and wear many hats. As a member of our winemaking team you will have the opportunity to be involved in various activities while working with a highly motivated and dynamic production team; keeping learning all the details that make a difference in producing the best wines for the market. During harvest, you will be a central part of our wine making team while performing various work assignments to include production of juice and fermentation for white and red varietals:

Position Summary:
This role manages all cellar duties, as directed by the Winemaker, and requires in-depth knowledge of premium winery cellar operations; strong management and communication skills; attention to detail; and a mind for safe and quality focused operations.
The Cellar Master manages a crew of 3 Full-time employees and up to 2 harvest interns. It is expected that the Cellar Master be a hands-on member of the team and take an active role in the cellar.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
•  Management of all seasonal cellar activities, including but not limited to: grape processing, pressing, racking, filling and emptying tanks, barrels, completion of all wine blends, cleaning and sanitation of all cellar equipment.
•  Create daily and weekly work schedules in conjunction with the winemaking team, using work orders to delegate cellar tasks in an efficient and quality focused manner. Review completed work orders for accuracy. Report any out-of-spec values.
•  Supervise employees and lead by example, ensuring that all company SOPs and safety protocols are followed and respected
•  Maintain proper sanitation of cellar, and equipment. Research and keep informed of improvements in sanitation and work with winemaking team to make appropriate adjustments
•  Sustain an organized cellar. Order cellar equipment, supplies and gases. Maintain a regular physical inventory of dry goods, additives and chemicals.
•  Train all interns and newly hired cellar staff in cellar SOPs
•  Participation in winery maintenance as needed. Identify and contact appropriate suppliers or repairmen when unable to complete maintenance in house.
•  Managerial responsibilities include: hire and train employees; assigning and directing work; performance evaluations; rewarding and disciplining employees; resolving problems; mentoring others in premium winery operations
•  Other duties as assigned by the Winemaker.

Qualification & Experience Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and safely. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
•  5 years winery production experience, including a minimum of 2 years personnel management
•  Strong knowledge of premium wine handling from grape to the bottle.
•  Safe, careful and deliberate forklift driver, with experience driving and stacking full barrels on racks, pallets of wine.
•  Self-motivated to continuously learn more about wine production with an eye to improve techniques or efficiency where appropriate
•  Ability and willingness to work long hours and weekends, especially during harvest and bottling.
•  Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
•  Spanish language skills a plus
