Aperture Cellars/Devil Proof Vineyards are looking for enthusiastic winemaking interns for the 2024 harvest. We champion a range of highly acclaimed Bordeaux style wines from Sonoma County. With a mission to craft wines with a level of quality and refinement that set the benchmark for Cabernet, Malbec and Bordeaux blends, the winery is located in Healdsburg, Sonoma County, and focuses on an elevated level of precision farming and meticulous winemaking. The state-of-the-art production facility provides the tools and resources necessary for the most intricate, creative, and experimental winemaking objectives.

Laboratory Intern Position Description:

Under the Enologist’s supervision, the laboratory intern will assist in all areas of harvest-related routine laboratory analyses on both fermenting and finished wines. Duties would include daily brix and temperature readings, collecting samples, fermentation additions, stirring barrels, and entering data. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to follow directions safely and accurately. Applicants must be available to work full-time from early August through December, and willing to work overtime and weekends.

Essential Duties:

Strictly adhering to all company safety standards
Harvest maturity sampling and analysis
Daily brix and temp readings
Preparation of samples for analysis
Accurately and efficiently perform routine laboratory analysis
Barrel and tank sampling
Recording data in winemaking database
Monitoring tank and barrel fermentations
Perform fermentation and chemical additions to tank and barrel including inoculations
Prioritize work assignments
Follow strict sanitation procedures
May be asked to assist with general cellar operations including crush, press, and wine transfers

Minimum Requirements:
Able to work uninterrupted from August through December
Previous winery laboratory experience preferred, but not required

Must be able to provide proof of U.S. work authorization or work visa by the date of hire. Aperture Cellars does not provide sponsorship.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent organizational skills
Strong reading, writing, communication, and mathematical skills
Current Driver’s License
Able to work various shifts, overtime, and weekends
Able to work under pressure with many different people
Able to work rapidly and accurately, performing multiple tasks simultaneously

Physical Requirements:
Frequently sits, stands, walks, twists/turns, bends, kneels, reaches overhead, and climbs.?
Able to work at various heights, on ladders, catwalks, and man cage, and in tight or enclosed spaces.?
Must perform physically strenuous tasks including lifting heavy objects (50+ lbs).?
Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., machinery sounds including forklifts and pumps, and different types of alarms and alerts).
Work standing and walking for long hours
Work inside, outside, at various temperatures and weather conditions Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted
