Location: The Secret Wine Bar at San Francisco Wine School, South San Francisco, CA
Hours: Availability is solicited 1–2 months at a time and schedules are assigned 1–2 weeks in ad-vance. Regular weekly schedules are the goal. Additional shifts may be available assisting in events, hospitality, and classroom operations.
Compensation: $20+/hr commensurate with experience and credentials, plus tips. Employee discounts on classes, events, and retail purchases included.
Position Overview
The Kitchen & Guest Service Associate is a dynamic hybrid role supporting both the food and beverage experience at San Francisco Wine School. This position focuses on preparing and pre-senting charcuterie boards while also stepping into the bar to provide seamless service to guests. Candidates should bring energy, hospitality, and teamwork—balancing behind-the-scenes preparation with direct guest interaction.
This is not a back-of-house-only position: the Kitchen & Bar Lead is essential to maintaining the flow of the bar, ensuring guests feel welcomed, supported, and inspired to return.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Charcuterie Boards
- Prepare charcuterie boards for pre-orders and on-demand service.
- Ensure high quality, appealing presentation, and timely delivery.
2. Guest Service in the Bar (Highest Priority)
- Step in to serve and support guests whenever the SommTender is busy.
- Provide welcoming, attentive service and guide guests through food, wine, and event offerings.
3. Bar Cleanliness & Support
- Keep the bar area clean, stocked, and organized.
- Assist with opening and closing tasks as needed.
4. Kitchen Cleanliness
- Maintain a clean and organized prep area, following food safety standards. Maintain an orderly dirty dish drop-off area.
5. Guest Direction
- Assist with greeting and directing guests arriving from reception or downstairs to the ap-propriate space.
- When the bar is slower, assist with marketing by greeting passers-by at the ground-floor entrance and informing them about our offerings.
6. Classroom Set-Ups
- Help prepare classrooms for tastings, events, and instruction.
7. Ongoing Learning
- Develop knowledge of wine, service techniques, and Point-of-Sale systems to support both kitchen and bar operations.
Skills & Qualifications
• The Hospitality Gene: a natural warmth and enthusiasm for serving others.
• Prior service or kitchen prep experience (wine bar, café, restaurant, or hospitality environment preferred).
• Strong communication skills; able to make guests feel comfortable and welcome.
• Ability to multitask and adapt between kitchen prep and direct guest service.
• Basic wine knowledge; curiosity and willingness to learn are essential.
• Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented.
• Physical stamina to stand for extended periods; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be 21+ with identity verification and employment authorization.
