Job Description:

Join our winemaking team and play a key role in maintaining the integrity and quality of our wines—from grape to bottle. We’re seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on Enologist or Lab Technician to manage laboratory operations, quality control, and support data-driven winemaking decisions.
Summary

The Enologist plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity and quality of all wines produced by our winery. Working closely with winemaking, cellar, and bottling teams, this position oversees laboratory operations, conducts analytical testing, supports winemaking decisions, and ensures data integrity throughout the production cycle. During harvest, the Enologist may be responsible for leading and training a team of interns in lab procedures and safety.

This position is responsible for working directly with the winemaking team to complete all tasks related to wine analysis and quality assurance by performing the following duties:

Maintain Quality Control Across Production

Ensure Lab Accuracy, Safety, and Readiness

Key Responsibilities
Perform and manage accurate lab analyses (pH, TA, VA, SO2, alcohol, enzymatic and titration-based assays, spectrophotometric methods).

Monitor and report quality control metrics across all stages of production—from grape intake through bottling.

Calibrate, maintain, and clean lab instruments; prepare standard solutions and coordinate with vendors for repairs.

Schedule and conduct sampling and analysis of juice, must, and wine with the winemaking team.

Identify and report anomalies in test results; ensure data accuracy and integrity.

Develop, maintain, and revise SOPs and lab protocols; maintain safety documentation (MSDS).

Assist with internal/external audits, bottling QA, and ongoing quality programs.

Train and supervise seasonal harvest interns or lab assistants, ensuring safety and SOP adherence.

Oversee or make wine additions to tanks/barrels per winemaker instructions (e.g., acid, SO2, nutrients, fining agents).

Record and track all additions and movements in winery software or lab logs.

Provide bottling support through pre-, during, and post-run analysis and checks.

Collaborate with winemakers to interpret data, troubleshoot issues, and support decision-making.

Participate in tasting trials, sensory evaluations, and blending sessions.

Maintain well-organized, accurate lab records and winemaking data.

Manage inventory of lab supplies and reagents; place restock orders as needed.

Respond to customer complaints through a centralized email system and coordinate resolution with internal teams.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Chemistry, Food Science, or related discipline.

2+ years of winery lab experience; harvest and production cycle experience strongly preferred.

Familiarity with wine chemistry, fermentation science, and sensory evaluation practices.

Experience with lab equipment (e.g., spectrophotometers, auto-analyzers) and Microsoft Office; InnoVint or VinTrace knowledge a plus.

Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask under pressure.

Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Ability to lift 40 lbs and work extended hours, particularly during harvest.
