Senior Building Engineer

CBRE

Yountville, CA

Apply

Job Description:

As the CBRE Senior Building Engineer, you will serve as the site's top technical expert — the person who can be dropped into any equipment scenario, diagnose the problem, and find a solution. This is not a generalist role. The site operates highly automated and mechanically complex equipment that regularly challenges experienced technicians, and this role exists to provide the highest level of on-site technical authority.

You will be responsible for advanced troubleshooting, complex diagnostics, specialist maintenance execution, and technical knowledge transfer to the broader maintenance team. You will also serve as a trainer and subject matter expert, elevating the technical capability of the team around you.

Winery-specific experience is not required and can be trained on-site. What matters is deep machine understanding — the ability to work through complex mechanical, electrical, and automation systems with confidence. High-speed manufacturing experience from environments such as food and beverage, consumer packaged goods, or industrial bottling is directly transferable.

Site Context:
This role supports a dynamic, high-output operation that includes high-speed manufacturing, bottling lines, guest experience facilities, general office, storage, warehousing, and wastewater and drain water systems. Understanding the operational rhythm of this site is essential.

The site operates two production lines: one runs seasonally for approximately six months per year filling bottles, and a second line runs daily for 11–12 months per year across one or two shifts producing finished goods and empty cages. Output adapts continuously to market demand, meaning downtime is not predictable and all maintenance personnel must be capable of supporting an active bottling line.

The site operates on a two-shift model with three technicians per shift. During harvest season — typically six to eight weeks, generally falling between early August and mid-September, though timing can vary year to year — maintenance moves to a 24/7 schedule. Shifts restructure into three 8-hour rotations across six days, with a dedicated Sunday check-in to ensure facility integrity. No time off is permitted during harvest. All candidates must be comfortable with this schedule structure before applying.

What You'll Do:
•  Serve as the highest-level technical resource on site; provide expert-level troubleshooting and diagnostics across mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
•  Tackle complex, recurring, and previously unsolved equipment failures that exceed the diagnostic capability of the broader team.
•  Execute specialist maintenance tasks and support the site through high-complexity repairs and shutdowns.
•  Establish and maintain technical standards for maintenance execution across the account.
•  Identify patterns in recurring failures and develop systemic solutions.
•  Transfer knowledge to technicians through hands-on coaching, documentation, and training.
•  Support bottling line operations, including high-pressure systems, during production and maintenance windows.
•  Partner with the Site Supervisor and Reliability Asset Engineer to align technical execution with the broader maintenance strategy.
•  Support harvest season 24/7 operations as required.

What You'll Need:
•  10-15 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a high-speed manufacturing or industrial environment; food and beverage, CPG, bottling, or similar industries preferred.
•  Deep expertise in at least one technical discipline — electrical, mechanical, or automation/controls — with strong working knowledge across all three.
•  Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment issues independently, including scenarios with limited documentation or precedent.
•  Experience as a technical trainer or informal team resource; this role requires the ability to explain complex systems clearly to others.
•  High-pressure bottling or filling line experience is a plus; candidates who are technically sharp can be brought up to speed on winery-specific systems.
•  Comfort working on an active production line and adjusting priorities based on operational demand.
•  Ability to meet physical requirements including standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
•  Availability for harvest season schedule commitment (no time off during this period).

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future
