Compliance Manager- Navigator Wine Collection

Position Summary:

The Compliance Specialist brings a strong foundation of knowledge in the world of wine and spirit compliance. They must maintain a thorough knowledge of federal and state compliance practices. The role oversees all areas of compliance within the Navigator Wine Collection portfolio including; Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC), Excise Tax (CDTFA) reporting, logistics & filing, Secretary of State (SOS), Napa County Recorder, and Universal Product Codes (UPC) and Shipping Container Codes (SCC) creation. The manager handles licensing new projects. Reporting to the President, the Compliance Manager is also responsible for direct management of the Compliance Specialist and leads the partnership with any external compliance partners.

Essential Functions:

•  Work in a very fast-paced, agile operation running multiple compliance registrations in parallel
•  Oversite of licenses, renewals, and any updates for existing licenses needed.
•  Government report filing.
•  Leadership facilitating the licensing for new projects.
•  Full oversight of state excise tax filings also monitoring messages and updates
•  File Fictitious Business Name (FBN) with Napa County and maintain organized accounting of all records
•  Engage in problem solving activities with creative solutions between Parent company and NWC teams.
•  Advise Navigator teams on state and federal regulations.
•  Handle comprehensive distributor state filing LOA's and gallonage reports (where required).
•  Manage GL1 UPC and SCC for Navigator Wine Collection businesses.
•  Research and support all compliance department needs including leadership team, marketing, winemaking, production, sales, accounting and order team.
•  Complete TTB Certification/Exemption of Label/Bottle Approval (COLA) submissions and maintain knowledge of allowable changes.
•  Responsible for proper compliance and corporate structure files.
•  Assist Navigator teams with audit needs.
•  Participate in educational activities, at minimum annually, to ensure knowledge of compliance rules meet industry standards.
•  Brings an eye for detail and superb organizational skills.
•  Obtain proper documentation and approvals to amend permits.
•  Willingness to educate and broaden compliance knowledge to support new business initiatives.
•  Partner cross-functionally across the organization to ensure compliance needs do not hold up business opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications
•  At least 5 years of compliance experience in the wine industry, spirits industry experience a plus.
•  Bachelor's Degree
•  Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite with a desire to learn new technologies.
•  Self-starter with ability to project management, prioritize, and manage others.
•  Able to flex with changing priorities.

Additional Functions:

•  Comply with all company safety policies, practices, and procedures. Participate in safety training and report all unsafe conditions or work practices.
•  Participate in team efforts and perform additional duties as needed.

Necessary Skills:

Language: Ability to speak and understand basic English required for all positions.
•  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, financial reports, legal documents, and policies and procedures. Ability to write detailed reports and compile supporting data. Ability to effectively present information to management, clients, outside consultants, and other business contacts, and to facilitate meetings or training sessions as needed.

Math:

•  Ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations, equations, data or scientific analysis, statistical theory, and/or other functions. Ability to understand and apply concepts of algebra, calculus, and geometry. Ability to recognize and correct inaccuracies when using a calculator or computer spreadsheet.

Logic:

•  Ability to apply common sense understanding to multiple tasks, analyze and solve practical problems, prioritize, and delegate tasks and projects, work both independently and as part of a team, and adapt to frequent changes in the work environment.

Computer:

•  Possess intermediate/advance computer skills which can include e-mail, internet, word processing, spreadsheet, basic database activity, graphic arts and/or publishing.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature. Manual dexterity sufficient to reach, handle items, and work with the fingers. May require lifting and moving objects up to 20 lbs. in weight. Clear vision, close and distant, and ability to adjust focus. Hearing adequate for telephone and office level conversation.

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Work Environment

Primarily in a well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor setting with adequate ventilation. This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Moderate noise levels typical of public space: public conversations, telephones/cell phones, large groups.

Schedule and Travel Requirements

Primarily a set weekday schedule without expectations to travel.
