Position Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance activities for a modern 100,000 ft² custom crush winery. This critical leadership role ensures the reliable operation, safety, and longevity of the entire facility, including the building structure, utilities, and specialized wine production equipment. The Maintenance Manager will oversee preventive maintenance, repairs, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives to minimize downtime and support high-quality wine production.


Key Responsibilities



Facility & Infrastructure Maintenance

Oversee the maintenance and repair of the 100,000 ft² facility structure, including roofs, walls, flooring, doors, loading docks, and HVAC systems.
Manage building utilities such as electrical systems, plumbing, compressed air, wastewater treatment, and refrigeration systems.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to facility safety, environmental standards, and occupational health (OSHA, EPA, etc.).


Wine Production Equipment Maintenance

Lead the maintenance, repair, and optimization of all winemaking equipment, including:
Destemmers, crushers, and presses
Fermentation tanks, pumps, and transfer lines
Filtration systems, bottling lines, and packaging equipment
Barrel washing and storage systems
Temperature control and glycol systems
Conveyors, forklifts, and material handling equipment
Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and efficiency.


Leadership & Team Management

Supervise and mentor a team of maintenance technicians and contractors.
Create work schedules, assign tasks, and ensure high standards of workmanship and safety.
Manage maintenance budgets, parts inventory, and vendor relationships.
Recruit, train, and develop maintenance staff to build a high-performing team.


Safety, Compliance & Documentation

Champion a strong safety culture and ensure all maintenance activities follow lock-out/tag-out, confined space, and other safety protocols.
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, equipment history, and compliance documentation.
Coordinate with production, quality, and winemaking teams to schedule maintenance with minimal disruption to operations.


Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades, process improvements, and cost savings.
Implement reliability-centered maintenance strategies and predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, thermal imaging, etc.).
Support capital projects related to facility expansion or equipment modernization.


Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field (preferred). Equivalent experience will be considered.
5+ years of progressive maintenance leadership experience, ideally in food & beverage, wine, beer, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
Strong technical knowledge of winery equipment and processes is highly preferred.
Proven experience managing maintenance in a large facility (50,000+ sq ft).


Technical Skills

In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Familiarity with PLCs, automation, and control systems used in modern wineries.
Experience with preventive maintenance software (CMMS) such as Fiix, UpKeep, or similar systems.
Working knowledge of refrigeration, HVAC, and wastewater systems.


Soft Skills

Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, seasonal environment (harvest and bottling peaks).
High attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
Ability to maintain professional and positive relationships with coworkers in the interest of business operations.


Other Requirements

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call during peak production seasons.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks as needed.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
