Role Overview:
The Outbound Operations Manager is responsible for the daily execution of all outbound fulfillment operations including picking, packing, shipping, and order fulfillment across all Last Bottle brands. This is a hands-on operational leadership role responsible for delivering exceptional customer experiences through speed, accuracy, labor efficiency, and consistent execution.
The successful candidate thrives on the warehouse floor, leads through visibility and accountability, develops high-performing supervisors and associates, and uses data to drive operational improvements. They establish disciplined daily operating rhythms, maintain high service levels during both steady-state and peak operations, and continuously improve processes that enable the business to scale.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Outbound Operations
• Lead daily pick, pack, and ship operations to consistently achieve throughput, quality, and customer service objectives.
• Partner with Director of Service Operations to manage wave planning, order prioritization, staffing assignments, and backlog reduction to meet established service level agreements.
• Monitor outbound performance throughout each shift and rapidly address operational bottlenecks.
• Ensure all customer orders are fulfilled accurately, efficiently, and on time.
Performance Management
• Own departmental KPIs including:
• Pack Orders Per Hour (OPH)/Packages Per Hour (PPH)
• Pick Units Per Hour (UPH)
• Shipping Accuracy
• Order Cycle Time
• Labor Cost per Order
• Backlog
• SLA Attainment
• Utilize operational dashboards and reporting to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct regular Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on shipping errors, productivity gaps, and process failures.
Labor Management
• Develop daily staffing plans aligned with forecasted order volumes.
• Optimize labor allocation while maintaining safety, productivity, and quality.
• Review attendance, timekeeping, overtime, and schedule adherence.
• Partner with HR to recruit, onboard, train, coach, and retain warehouse personnel.
Leadership & Team Development
• Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, leads, and warehouse associates.
• Build a strong leadership bench capable of independently operating outbound shifts.
• Foster a culture of accountability, urgency, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations, coaching sessions, and development planning.
Process Improvement
• Design, document, maintain, and train all outbound Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, labor efficiency, and operational consistency.
• Partner with Tech Ops teams to improve warehouse workflows, WMS functionality, reporting, and automation opportunities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Partner closely with Inventory to ensure inventory accuracy and product availability.
• Coordinate with Supply Chain regarding inventory flow and replenishment priorities.
• Work with Customer Operations to resolve order exceptions and customer-impacting issues.
• Support company-wide initiatives, peak events, and operational projects as assigned.
Safety & Compliance
• Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant warehouse environment.
• Ensure OSHA, company safety policies, and operational standards are consistently followed.
• Lead by example in promoting workplace safety and operational discipline.
Qualifications
Required-
• 5+ years of progressive warehouse or distribution leadership experience, including management of supervisors and frontline associates.
• Proven experience leading high-volume fulfillment or e-commerce operations.
• Demonstrated success improving throughput, productivity, quality, and labor efficiency.
• Experience managing labor planning, workforce scheduling, and performance management.
• Strong knowledge of warehouse KPIs and operational reporting.
• Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), handheld scanning technology, and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work flexible schedules during peak business periods.
Preferred-
• Experience with Linnworks, Shopify, or similar WMS/OMS platforms.
• Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience.
• Experience supporting warehouse startups, expansions, or major operational improvements.
• Wine, beverage, food, or consumer packaged goods fulfillment experience is preferred but not required.
