Assistant Controller
Reports To: Controller
Position Summary
The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and supervising the Senior Accountants. The Assistant Controller serves as a key leader within the accounting team and acts in the Controller's capacity when needed.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Supervise and mentor Senior Accountants, providing guidance on complex accounting matters and professional development
• Oversee general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and journal entry review
• Assist in the preparation of financial reports, variance analyses, and management reporting packages
• Support external audit processes, including coordination of audit requests and preparation of supporting schedules
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
• Collaborate with the Accounting Manager on cross-functional accounting initiatives and process improvements
• Assist in the development and monitoring of departmental budgets and forecasts
• Stay current on changes to accounting standards and regulatory requirements, advising the Controller as appropriate
• Step in for the Controller on financial matters as delegated
• ERP migration experience helpful
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; public accounting experience desired
• 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
• Experience with ERP systems; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Wine industry or hospitality experience a plus

• Wine Industry experience
• Familiarity with DtC (direct to consumer) industry
• Public Accounting experience
Compensation & Benefits
• Base Salary: $110,000 - $125,000 (Exempt)
• Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K with company match
