Founded in 1969, ZD Wines is owned and operated by the second and third generation of the deLeuze Family. Located in the heart of the Napa Valley, ZD is committed to producing world-class wines, organic farming and operating the winery with family values. It is the contributions from each individual in our hard-working, passionate and insightful 35-person team that sets ZD apart.

For the first time in 6 years, we are looking outside the ZD walls for a new addition to our 2-person accounting team. We accomplish all aspects of winery accounting within our solar powered Rutherford facility. From 100% certified organic grape growing through all winemaking processes and finally bottling and shipping through all sales channels; ZD has always sought start-to-finish control believing that our knowledge, passion and dedication to excellence is our differentiator. The Controller needs to take our mantra of ‘Zero Defects’ to heart.

This position requires at least two years Winery experience, attention to detail, great communication skills, and the ability to multitask. The Controller reports directly to the President and CEO and manages the Senior Accountant position, collaborates with Hospitality, Wine Sales, Vineyards, Winemaking, and Shipping.

Responsibilities:
- Supervise payroll processing and employee/employer payroll tax filing using Intuit
- Provide Human Resources expertise as required
- Benefits administration and employee onboarding
- Calculate and process SIMPLE IRA Employee contributions and Employer match
- Record and reconcile employee FSA and HRA transactions
- Manage workers’ compensation insurance reporting and claims as needed
- Employee off-boarding procedures
- Compliance with TTB and state alcohol compliance reporting requirements, preparing, filing, and payments
- Oversee new and renewing license and wine compliance accounts as required
- Monthly sales tax prepayments and quarterly sales tax return preparation
- Bottled and Bulk wine inventory reconciliation; monthly, quarterly, and annually
- California broker inventory management and oversight
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Monthly bank account reconciliation and interest posting to appropriate accounts
- Perform Daily inventory & sales analysis and reporting to management
- Sales analysis for sales & marketing team through distribution, wholesale and retail channels
- Monthly billback management including free goods oversight and bank replenishment
- Reconcile and process monthly distribution and wholesale commissions
- Harvest season grape payments properly recorded and paid
- Business insurance renewal and analysis support to Executive management
- Annual business and real estate property tax filings
- Maintain and reconcile GL accounts and depreciation schedules
- Year-end adjustments, journal entries & close, cost accounting, reporting & schedules for tax preparation for both winery and non-profit organizations
- Ensure proper segregation of accounting duties and internal controls
- Other projects as needed

Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting preferred
- At least 4 years of bookkeeping or similar experience
- Two years previous winery experience
- Advanced QuickBooks skills
- Advanced Excel skills, including V-Lookups, Pivot Tables, and Queries
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Experience using Sovos ShipCompliant system
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, sharp attention to detail
- Able to work in a team environment as well as operate independently
- Flexibility and openness to changing priorities

Other:
On-site, Full-Time Monday-Friday
Primary hours are 8:00am-5:00pm
Full Benefits Package, after 60 days
Salary Range $140,000 - $160,000
