JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller supports the Director of Finance & Administration in transacting and overseeing Grgich Hills Estate's financial management and accounting operations. This position is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements, and providing financial analysis that supports informed business decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Operations
• Assist with day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure all transactions comply with GAAP and company policies.
• Maintain accounting records and document retrieval systems, both digital and physical.
• Oversee invoice general ledger coding.
• Serve as the administrator for NetSuite and Commerce7.
• Work with the external CPA firm on ensuring accounting systems and coding are accurate and easy to follow.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
• Prepare internal management reports and variance analysis.
• Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Monitor financial performance against budget and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Assist in developing recommendations that improve profitability and operational efficiency.
• Produce reports and analyses for executive leadership and external stakeholders.
Inventory Management
• Maintain accurate inventory records for finished goods.
• Conduct inventory counts, reconciliations, and adjustments.
• Conduct rolling inventory reconciliations and recommend corrective actions.
Compliance & Audit
• Assist with annual audit and financial review preparation.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accounting schedules and documentation supporting audits and reviews.
• Completion of TTB compliance, sales and use tax filings, and wholesale/direct shipping compliance.
Systems & Process Improvement
• Contribute to ERP optimization, automation, and process improvement initiatives.
• Document and streamline accounting procedures.
• Participate in accounting software upgrades and implementations.
• Develop subject matter expertise in NetSuite/Crafted and related systems.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
• Assist in mentoring accounting staff and clerical personnel as assigned.
• Collaborate with cross-functional departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Support special projects, financial modeling, and strategic initiatives.
• Foster strong internal relationships and provide responsive support to stakeholders.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a senior accountant, assistant controller, or supervisory accounting role.
• Experience in the wine industry preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and internal controls.
• Experience supporting audits, tax compliance, and regulatory reporting.
• Proficiency with NetSuite/Crafted, Commerce7, and iDig.
