Nestled within the renowned St. Helena AVA, Sinegal Estate is dedicated to producing ultra-premium wines with a focus on Bordeaux varietals. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Harvest Production Enologist to join our small winemaking team for the 2026 harvest season. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across lab, cellar, winemaking, and vineyard operations while contributing directly to the production of world class wines.
Estimated employment period: Mid-July through completion of harvest and post-harvest activities. Employment duration may vary based on harvest timing, fermentation activity, and winery workload.
Primary Responsibilities
The Harvest Production Enologist will support all aspects of lab, cellar, winemaking, and vineyard operations during the harvest season. Responsibilities listed below are representative of the position but are not intended to be all-inclusive. Duties may change based on harvest timing, winery needs, and business priorities.
Lab & Wine Analysis
• Perform routine juice, must, and wine analysis, including Brix, temp, pH, TA, YAN, alc, VA, SO2, RS, and phenolic measurements
• Monitor primary and malolactic fermentations, including daily Brix and Temp tracking.
• Maintain lab records and database
• Schedule and track routine wine analyses, including sulfur, VA, ML, RS, phenolics, and microbial testing as needed.
• Report analytical results and fermentation trends to the Winemaker.
Vineyard and Harvest Operations:
• Assist with vineyard maturity sampling, including, Brix, pH, and TA
• Assist with vineyard operations support as needed
• Maintain fruit analysis sheets and communicate ripening trends to the winemaker
• Assist with fruit receiving, processing, and harvest logistics
Cellar & Production Support
• Perform cellar operations including wine transfers, racking, blending, barrel work, additions, and sanitation
• Prepare inoculations and assist with fermentation management
• Conduct wine and barrel sampling for quality control and tracking purposes
• Assist with benchtop trials and sensory evaluations
• Detect and identify wine quality issues and support corrective actions
Inventory and Recordkeeping
• Maintain inventory of lab supplies, dry goods, and wine making materials.
• Track barrel inventory and maintain accurate barrel records
• Perform data entry, lot tracking and harvest record keeping using winery database and excel
General Responsibilities
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab and cellar environment
• Follow all winery safety and sanitation protocols
• Assist with cap management and other harvest related activities as needed
• Support the winemaking team with special projects throughout the harvest season
Qualifications
• Previous winery, harvest, lab, and cellar experience preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and overtime during harvest period
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in a cellar environment for extended periods
• Ability to work flexible hours during peak harvest activity
