Our Napa Valley vineyard management company is looking for a viticulturalist/operations manager. This position will report directly to the director of operations, run our pest and disease control program and assist the viticulture management team with all tasks during the growing season. This is a full-time position.
Summary:
As the Viticulturalist/Operations Manager, you will supervise and monitor multiple vineyard operations daily. You will monitor vineyard blocks for pests, disease, soil moisture, and grape maturity levels. You will track all pesticide applications and manage regular reporting to government agencies. You will also develop and report on budgeting with upper management. You will have the unique opportunity to work closely with vineyard owners and vineyard personnel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. As part of your role, you can attend industry functions and events such as wine tastings, association meetings, etc., allowing you to stay connected and engaged with the vineyard industry.
Responsibilities:
• Supervise vineyard personnel.
• Prepare annual and weekly fungicide, herbicide, and cultivation schedules and distribute them to your direct reports.
• Review daily fungicide, herbicide, and cultivation schedules for accuracy and inefficiencies.
• Review daily fungicide, herbicide, and cultivation metrics reports for inefficiencies.
• Closely monitor all field activities to meet quality standards, safety, and efficiency
• Closely monitor all equipment use and movement for efficiency and accuracy.
• Oversee all viticulture department activities.
• Manage Spray Department Supervisors[MD1.1]
• Prepare annual departmental budgets for herbicides, fungicides, and cultivation
• Work closely with the Vineyard Operations Manager to schedule the overall daily activities of personnel and equipment, including tractor activities, spraying, and harvesting.
• Conduct necessary meetings to communicate work priorities to vineyard personnel effectively.
• Complete weekly reports to owners for equipment and personnel usage.
• As a key team member, you will inform the owners about the daily vineyard activities and ensure they are always informed of progress.
• Interface with Human Resources to assist in planning and scheduling training (i.e., safety, etc.)
• Oversee and review adherence to budgets.
• Oversee pricing and delivery of materials for spray programs, fertilizers, stake & wire, and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, personnel procedures, and policies and keep all SOPs current.
• Ensure that safety protocols and procedures are consistently followed to create a safety culture in every activity and decision-making process.
• Play an active role in documentation control for all regulatory agencies.
• Work closely with vendors and external organizations.
• Enter daily time and reports into AgCode.

Skills:
• Proficiency with AgCode
• Ability to identify common vineyard pests and diseases.
• Working knowledge of irrigation scheduling.
• Must be well organized with attention to detail.
• Proactive problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.
• BS in Viticulture or a similar field.
• Hold PCA or QAC license or be able to acquire within one year of employment.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred.
