Field Operations Technician (Vineyard Technology) — Napa & Sonoma
Full-Time, Hourly | Growing Season Role (˜ 9 Months) with Potential Extension / Conversion

About Scout
At Scout, we combine advanced geospatial technology, artificial intelligence, and computer vision to deliver vine-level insights for vineyard managers, viticulturists, and vineyard operations teams. Our cutting-edge platform helps growers make data-driven decisions throughout the season, optimizing vineyard performance, sustainability, and profitability. By providing high-resolution data and historical analytics, we enable proactive, precision viticulture.

Role Overview
Scout is seeking a Field Operations Technician to support the deployment and operation of Scout’s platform across the Napa and Sonoma regions. You will spend most of your time in the field with customers—installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Scout’s software and integrated hardware systems (cameras, GPS, mounts, and connectivity components) on ATVs, UTVs, and tractors.
This role is customer-facing and hands-on: you’ll work closely with Sales and Customer Success to support on-site demos, onboarding, and training, and partner with Engineering to test and improve new systems and configurations. You’ll also assist with vineyard scanning and field data collection to improve Scout’s platform outputs.

Key Responsibilities
Customer Deployment, Training & Support
- Travel to customer farms and vineyard sites throughout Napa/Sonoma and surrounding areas.
- Install and maintain cameras, GPS units, mounting systems, and cabling/connectivity for seamless use with the Scout Vision Mobile app.
- Train vineyard and farm employees on setup, scanning workflows, and system use.
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting and field support to ensure reliable operation and strong customer adoption.
- Support on-site demos and onboarding sessions with Sales and Customer Success.

Field Data Collection & Quality Assurance
- Conduct vineyard scans to ensure high-quality, geolocated image capture.
- Collect ground-truth validation data and ground control points to support AI model improvement.
- Perform spot checks and QA to verify scan accuracy and data quality.
- Support scans and field testing at both customer sites and internal R&D locations.

Technical & Cross-Team Collaboration
- Diagnose and resolve hardware/software issues in collaboration with Engineering.
- Calibrate and fine-tune cameras, GPS, and other sensor-based devices for accuracy and reliability.
- Share customer feedback, field insights, and system performance updates to improve deployment workflows and product experience.

Qualifications
Core Requirements
- Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods and in variable field conditions.
- Comfortable driving 1–2 hours/day to customer sites.
- Able to lift at least 20 lbs and perform hands-on field tasks and installations.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation (mileage reimbursement available).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools.
- Basic troubleshooting skills across hardware, connectivity, and mobile workflows.
- Flexibility to occasionally work irregular hours aligned with growers’ schedules.
- Detail-oriented and able to follow technical processes accurately.
- Proactive problem solver who can work independently and adapt quickly.

Preferred (Not Required)
- Agriculture, vineyard, or field operations background.
- Customer-facing experience (especially in ag-tech or technical support).
- Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack, and CRM tools like HubSpot.
- Spanish/English bilingual proficiency.
- Strong communicator, comfortable training customers and collaborating across teams.
- Familiarity with GPS devices, cameras, mobile applications, and basic wiring/cabling.

Schedule & Commitment
- Full-time, hourly role
- Approximate term: ~9 months during the growing season, with potential extension (including full-year) based on performance and business needs
- Opportunity for conversion to a full-time, year-round position for high performers
- Monday–Friday with occasional overtime/weekends during peak periods
- Variable and irregular start times based on customer and field schedules; limited remote work may be possible
- Location Requirement
- Must reside in or near Napa/Sonoma to support frequent customer site visits.
