Job Description:

Francis Ford Coppola Presents is seeking a collaborative and business-minded individual to join our team as a Controller for our group of collective businesses, ranging from wine & spirit brands, domestic boutique hotels, film production and distribution, café, short story magazine, and associated support departments.
This position will direct the financial activities of the organization. The successful individual has an innovative, adaptable, and purposeful approach that is integral to our business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Financial Accounting and Management (50%)
- Oversee and direct accounting department for proper recording of daily financial transactions. Direct monthly accounting close process and publishing of financial statements
- Provide financial performance information to management for all businesses including resorts, wine tasting room, wine club, ecommerce, winery & vineyard operations, wholesale
wine, publishing, restaurant operations, film production & distribution, and cost centers.
- Analyze variances in financials
- Maintain and improve internal controls
- Develop accounting procedures including policies to be followed by all departments.
- Work with banks regarding financing, reporting, and compliance
- Control safeguarding of company assets through proper internal controls.
- Management of administrative staff
- Oversee Sales and Use Tax Reporting and Payments for California and other states.
- Prepare and file annual Property Tax
- Direct preparation of budgets for various departments, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification.
- Advise management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
- Oversee insurance renewal worksheets.
- Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Establish relations with banks and other financial institutions

2. Film Production and Distribution (20%)
-Maintain a film library distribution accounting, tracking payments
-Work with an independent contractor to calculate expenses and payments due to film participants when payments are received (guild residuals, gross and net participations, and
distribution expenses).
-Support Film Production Manager on independent film productions and projects as needed.

3. Tax (20%)
-Work closely with tax consulting firm on annual tax filings.
-Prepare annual tax return workpapers for tax consulting firm.
-Prepare federal and state tax return extensions and estimated tax payments.
-Prepare quarterly estimated income estimates for tax consulting firm.

4. Special Projects (10%)
-Work with business managers to review, vet, and prepare projects including capital improvements, repairs & maintenance, and construction to prepare for approval. Routine tracking of expenditures versus budget. Responsible for software upgrades and transition (property management and accounting systems).

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises Administrative and Accounting department. Provide leadership and support to the working team: coach, guide, nurture and develop.
Drive company focus, manage culture, encourage a strong work ethic and foster an environment of trust and respect. Communicate and support company policies and decisions in
a positive manner. Train employees to be successful in their roles and set standards for work performance. Recognize and address performance strengths and challenges of staff. Handle employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner.

Job Requirements:
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance or accounting required. CPA preferred. Strong financial background with 5 years or more of experience in business or finance operations for luxury hospitality and/or resort industries.
