Job Description:

Position Summary
Merryvale Vineyards is seeking an experienced and professional Tasting Room Host to provide an exceptional guest experience. This role requires a strong foundation in hospitality, wine education, and sales, with a focus on delivering outstanding customer service while promoting wine sales and club memberships. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a deep appreciation for wine, and the ability to create a welcoming and educational environment for all guests.

Key Responsibilities
•  Lead Engaging Tastings: Guide guests through structured wine tastings, providing detailed information about our wines, vineyard practices, and winemaking process.
•  Deliver High-Quality Hospitality: Ensure each guest receives personalized and professional service, creating a memorable experience that encourages repeat visits.
•  Drive Sales & Membership Growth: Effectively promote and sell wines, wine club memberships, and merchandise, contributing to overall revenue goals.
•  Manage Transactions: Accurately process sales, handle cash and credit card transactions, and ensure proper point-of-sale system usage.
•  Maintain Tasting Room Standards: Assist with opening and closing duties, inventory management, restocking, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of the tasting room and outdoor areas.
•  Support Private Tastings & Events: Assist in hosting trade tastings, VIP experiences, and wine club events.
•  Ongoing Wine Education: Continuously develop knowledge of the winery’s portfolio and industry trends to enhance the guest experience.

Qualifications
•  Minimum 2 years of experience in a hospitality, tasting room, restaurant, or sales-driven role.
•  Strong knowledge of wine, with the ability to effectively communicate tasting notes, food pairings, and production techniques.
•  Professional demeanor with excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
•  A clean, well-maintained personal appearance when interacting with consumer and trade guests.
•  Proven ability to drive sales and meet performance goals in a customer-facing role.
•  Proficiency with WineDirect & Commerce7 platforms preferred.
•  Must be at least 21 years old and eligible to obtain Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification if required.
•  Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evening events.

Physical Requirements
•  Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (wine cases, tables, supplies).
•  Ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout the tasting room and outdoor service areas.
•  Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead as necessary.
