2025 Amici Cellars Harvest (Living Expense Stipend Included)
Amici Cellars is seeking one intern to join our 2025 harvest team to help us run our wine lab. We are a family-owned premium, boutique winery producing about 12,000 cases nestled just north of Calistoga, where we typically process no more than 195 tons. Our portfolio includes single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from some of the most renowned vineyards in Napa Valley, as well as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Sonoma Coast and Russian River. As an Amici intern, you will be working with and handling incredibly premium fruit. Your role will be to:
-Successfully calibrate, operate, and run analytical machines such as our SPICA and Wine-X-ray Spectrophotometer
-Correctly sample requested lots and perform the analysis needed
-Properly record and build-out lab analysis data that will be used to help winemakers track fermentation and make winemaking decisions and contribute to wine quality.
-Clean, maintain, and care of lab equipment, tools, machines and workspace.
This is an incredible opportunity to work directly with winemakers and influence wine-making decisions. We will teach you to interpret and understand fermentation kinetics as well as how we use phenolic data to determine a wine's success during aging. Our hope is that you not just become a data-entry robot, but that you can learn and understand fermentation patterns and issues. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to help in the cellar as well and perform pump-overs, sanitation, dig-outs, and barrel-downs.
We are an extremely hands-on winery and due to our wine-making style, no two days during harvest will be the same. You will get the opportunity to witness and participate in all aspects of the wine-making process from the vineyard to bottle. Our number one priority is for you to learn how to uphold winemaking standards and safety, develop an eye for detail and thoroughness, and understand how our wine-making processes contribute to our wine quality. During harvest, we provide lunch as well as weekly BBQs for the spirit. You will also be able to partake in educational tastings and vineyard visits.
We do not provide transportation or housing; however, we do offer successful applicants a monthly living expense stipend.
We recommend that applicants submit a resume AND cover letter as we believe that personality, attitude, and best-fit are factors that should be considered. Prior harvest and forklift experience is not necessary, though any past experience in a luxury winery work environment will be strongly considered.
For this role, we require at least:
-1+ year of lab experience
-1+ year of cellar experience
-Some knowledge of Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel
-Efficient time management and an eye for detail
