2024 Harvest Intern - Carter Cellars / Envy Wines

Carter Cellars / Envy Wines

Calistoga, CA

Job Description:

Envy Wines / Carter Cellars is looking for motivated, enthusiastic, and hard-working professionals to join our 2024 Harvest team in Calistoga, Napa Valley, CA.

About Us:
We are a Boutique Custom Winemaking Facility, meaning we produce wine for a number of well-known Napa labels. Our clients are small lot-boutique wineries focused on making ultra-premium wines. Being in Napa we primarily produce Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon but we will also crush some Merlot, Grenache, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Pinot Blanc.

Envy Wines was founded in 2006 by Nils Venge and Mark Carter. Carter Cellars started in 1998 and moved into the facility when it opened. This year, 2023 will be the 18th Harvest in our winemaking facility – there have been well over thirty 100 point scores made at Envy Wines from variety of different winemakers. In 2023 you’ll have the ability to join our quest for perfection again (hopefully). If you want to know more about our winery, please visit Envy Wines or Carter Cellars websites.

As time allows we will try to go seeing a few of our vineyard sites and tasting the wines produced by us and others. Being a small team, we like to spend time barbequing or going out for drinks when we’re not in the throes of harvest.

About You:
Our ideal candidate has a great attitude, is an excellent listener and is eager to learn. Previous harvest experience is a plus but not a requirement. A passion for wine, the willingness and enthusiasm to take on any task and a keen attention to detail are all desirable characteristics that we like to see in a harvest intern.

You will be working closely with our entire harvest team so it is incredibly important to us that, above all else, you have a great sense of humor and a ‘can do’ attitude.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

•  Cleaning and sanitation
•  Fruit processing (setup, breakdown and sanitation of line and working various processing line positions)
•  Fermentation management (pumpovers, inoculations and additions), Temperature / Brix measurement
•  Drain and dig out of tanks, filling barrels and running the press
•  Forklift operation (everyone on our team will get forklift certified at the start of the internship)
•  Barrel management (sampling, sulfuring and topping)

How to Apply:
If you are interested in applying please respond to this listing.

Misc. Info:
We can´t provide housing or transportation but we have many contacts and resources to put you in touch with.
Our winery is located 5 minutes north of the town of Calistoga by car. Public transportation is not a good option for harvest team members given the dynamic schedule you will be working during harvest.

Pay range goes from $21 - $25 per hour, based on experience and overtime is highly likely. We do not provide lunch but we keep some ready to eat food in stock in the freezer, plus a bunch of snacks for everyone’s enjoyment. And let’s not forget about the refreshments!

IMPORTANT INFO FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
We are open to hosting international harvest interns this year on a J1 visa. If you are an international applicant, please apply and be prepared to tell us how you plan to secure a J1 visa. If we are interested, based on your application we will reach out to discuss your application.
