ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position must be flexible and capable of performing a myriad of duties relating to Accounting, Winery Compliance, Insurance, Payroll and Benefits. This person should be organized with great attention to detail, but also able to see the bigger picture. It is important that this position be a self-starter, able to work independently with little supervision. The responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to, the following:

PAYROLL
•  Review timekeeping for variety of departments; agriculture workforce, cellar crew, etc.
•  Track down and enter all required timesheets.
•  Facilitate the production of final checks, as well as manual checks, as needed.
•  Execute weekly payroll, using a combination of AgCode and Payroll software.
•  Make regular required deposits, including child support payments to the SDU, 401k payments, FTB withholdings via mail, etc.
•  Timely completion of paperwork related to employees’ payroll, including disability claims, unemployment claims, withholding requests, etc.
•  Manage and maintain up-to-date records for every employee change involving garnishments, W-4s, direct deposits, addresses, phone numbers, rate changes, status changes, etc.
•  Track and enroll benefits eligible employees for both medical insurance and 401K.
•  Successfully conclude year-end payroll processes including bonuses, ACA submissions, and W-2s.
•  Audit employee work statuses and oversee routine terminations.

ACCOUNTING
•  Assists Controller with month and year-end closings.
•  Accounts Payable processing in Bill.com, vendor record maintenance.
•  Assists in inventory management, including both bulk inventory and bottled inventory.
•  Stay current on all applicable labor and employment law, compliance regulation, etc.
•  Support company culture-building initiatives.
•  Create, edit, and audit Standard Operating Procedure documentation; maintain as processes change.

COMPLIANCE
•  CA Sales & Use Reporting; monthly prepayments and quarterly filing.
•  COLA and Label Registration for all wine products.
•  Direst to Consumer License Maintenance.
•  Vineyard Regulatory Permitting and Reporting.
•  Seeks appropriate support and drives resolution of non-compliant situations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

•  Full-time, 8:30 AM to 5 PM – Monday through Friday.
•  Must be available to work weekends and/or holidays on occasion, if needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
•  Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance.
•  Must have solid accounting theory background and ability to apply GAAP.
•  Must possess at least 6-8 years’ experience in senior level Accounting or Finance role.
•  Must be willing to learn and research new areas of employment law, compliance, etc.
•  Wine industry and/or Vineyard Management experience is preferred.
•  Requires strong PC computer literacy skills.
•  QuickBooks experience is a plus.
•  Takes initiative and is a reliable, adaptable team player for a fast-paced environment.
•  Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, ideally candidates are bilingual (Spanish).
•  Must have initiative, enthusiasm and self-motivation.
•  Must be able to work with little direct supervision of accounting matters and must know how to set priorities to meet deadlines.
•  Must be accurate, detail oriented and possess neat work habits.
