Position Summary:
Works directly with winemaking, laboratory, and cellar staff to meet the quality standards of juices and wines produced by Mumm Napa during the 2023 harvest season. Successful applicant will primarily work as the Mumm Napa winemaking representative at a custom crush facility in Healdsburg, CA. Primary functions include assisting with efficient fruit intake and cellar planning, organizing and communicating regarding bulk juice and/or wine shipments, tasting and performing quality control checks on sparkling base wines in tank, and assisting with trials. This position requires the ability to work extended hours, specifically during the Harvest season. This position requires the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
Major Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
• Harvest – support winemaking team in ensuring the highest quality pressing and fermentation operations for sparkling base wines produced in a custom crush facility. Coordinate custom crush production of Mumm Napa sparkling base wines, under the direction of the head winemaker. Assist in fruit receiving and Scalehouse management as required. Monitor daily fermentation analysis and coordinate additions and winemaking cellar operations. Support winemaking team in regard to cellar planning and custom crush work order approval. Perform grape quality inspections and evaluations. Organize juice and wine shipments between wineries and communicate with bulk wine trucking companies.
• Wine Sensory Analysis – Daily juice and fermentation tasting in tank. Help set up tastings for quality auditing of wine and necessary fining and other trials. Assist in execution of wine fining and additions bench trials as needed.
Skills / Qualifications / Experience:
Essential:
• Advanced MS Office skills
• 1-2 years of winemaking experience
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
• Good math and analytical skills
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong multi-tasking and time management skills required.
• Ability to make independent judgments in a high pace environment. Must be prepared for interruptions and changes in job priorities; ability to multi task and work under strict deadlines. Work can be repetitious in nature at times, with a high demand for speed, accuracy and precision.
Desirable:
• BS in Fermentation Science or Enology or related field.
• Prior experience with sparkling wines
• Previous cellar and winery lab experience preferred.
• Bi-lingual skills a plus
Special Conditions:
• Some out of hours work may be required;
• Travel between co-packer sites and Mumm Napa winery as required;
• Current driver’s license.
• Work is performed in a typical field and winery environment with moderate demands for movement and lifting.
Pay Transparency Disclosure: The pay scale for this position is $25.00/hr - $28.00/hr. These figures represent what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will depend upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, and alignment with market data.
