Winery Cellar Hand

Pacific Breeze Winery seeks a hardworking and reliable individual as a Cellar Hand for the 2020 vintage. This is a contract position beginning in early September and ending in December 2020. This is a very hands on position assisting in all areas of wine production from crush through blending our white wines and barreling our red wines. The successful applicant must be reliable, have a positive attitude and be able to work well both independently and as part of a team.

We are an award winning urban winery located in New Westminster. Making wine in the city since 2005 and producing hand crafted, small lot wines from various regions. If the right candidate is interested in more hours, we would be willing to accommodate in other areas of the winery (ex. covering shifts as a Tasting Room Associate). Additional training would be provided.

Applicants must be capable of the following without constant supervision:

- Setting up, operating and cleaning crusher/destemmer, pumps and press

- Cleaning and sanitizing tanks, hoses and pumps, including safe handling of chemicals

- Rackings, additions, pump-overs and punch downs of fermenting wine tanks

- Monitoring ferments and alerting winemaker of any issues that arise

- Cleaning, filling and topping barrels

- Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment at all times

- Accurately follow work orders

- Overtime and shift work evenings and weekends during peak harvest periods (Oct-Nov) is required

Other non-harvest duties may include (but not limited to):

- Assisting with bottling of wine

- Assembling and wrapping pallets for shipping

- Loading and unloading delivery trucks

- Maintaining facility cleanliness in all production, packaging and warehouse areas


- Academic studies in Oenology and Viticulture is an asset

- Minimum one vintage experience

- Lab experience an asset but not mandatory

- Applicants need to have an excellent work ethic and ability to see a job through

- Ability to work as part of a team and individually without supervision

- Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions

- Ability to work at heights, and in cramped, confined spaces at times

- Forklift experience and certification are a definite asset

- Physically fit, ability to lift up to 60 lbs

- Valid SIN/Canadian work permit required

Expected Start Date: 2020-09-01

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Salary: $15.00 to $18.00 /hour
