Vineyard Manager

Job Description:

# NOW HIRING: VINEYARD MANAGER
##Roo Mountain Vineyards | Ellijay, Georgia

**Build the Vineyard. Lead the Team. Grow the Future.**

Roo Mountain Vineyards is seeking an experienced, hands-on **Vineyard Manager** to lead our vineyard operations and help shape the future of our growing winery in the heart of North Georgia.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proven viticulture professional who understands that exceptional wine begins long before the grapes reach the cellar. We are looking for someone who has successfully managed a vineyard of **five or more acres of producing grapes**, understands the demands of seasonal vineyard operations, and is ready to build, lead, and develop a dedicated outdoor operations team.

At Roo, the vineyard is the foundation of everything we do. Our wines, our guest experiences, and our continued growth all begin with healthy vines, excellent fruit, and thoughtful vineyard management. The right candidate will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on grape quality, vineyard development, team culture, and the long-term success of our estate.

### ABOUT ROO MOUNTAIN VINEYARDS

Roo Mountain Vineyards is a growing winery and hospitality destination nestled in the beautiful mountains of Ellijay, Georgia. Our operation extends well beyond the vineyard, with multiple tasting rooms, a restaurant, a Barrel Room, and a welcoming, collaborative hospitality team.

We are building something special: a winery where viticulture, winemaking, culinary experiences, and genuine Southern hospitality come together. Our team is passionate about quality, innovation, collaboration, and creating memorable experiences for our guests.

For the right professional, Roo offers the opportunity to take ownership of vineyard operations, contribute directly to the quality of our wines, develop a strong team, and grow alongside an ambitious and expanding winery.

### THE OPPORTUNITY

The Vineyard Manager is a key member of our management team, responsible for the health, productivity, and long-term development of Roo Mountain Vineyards' grape-growing operations.

This is a **hands-on leadership position**, not a desk-only management role. We need someone who is comfortable working in the vineyard, directing daily field operations, evaluating vine health, making informed viticultural decisions, and leading a team through every stage of the growing season.

You will work closely with our winemaking team, Director of Operations, and company owners to establish vineyard practices that support thriving vines, outstanding fruit quality, and the production goals of the winery.

The ideal candidate is an experienced vineyard professional who combines practical grape-growing knowledge with strong leadership, sound judgment, organization, and a genuine passion for viticulture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

**Vineyard Management & Viticulture**
- Oversee all aspects of vineyard operations, including pruning, canopy management, irrigation, nutrition, weed control, pest and disease management, crop monitoring, and harvest.
- Develop and implement seasonal and long-term vineyard management plans to improve vine health, fruit quality, and production consistency.
- Monitor soil conditions, vine vigor, disease pressure, fruit development, and vineyard performance, adjusting practices as conditions require.
- Establish and maintain vineyard standards, procedures, and schedules that support productive, healthy vines.
- Evaluate vineyard challenges proactively and implement practical, effective solutions.
- Support vineyard development and future growth through thoughtful planning and sound viticultural practices.

**Grape Quality & Winemaking Collaboration**
- Work directly with the winemaking team to align vineyard practices with the winery's production goals and desired wine styles.
- Monitor fruit maturity, crop load, and grape condition throughout the growing season.
- Coordinate harvest timing, picking logistics, and fruit delivery with the winemaking team.
- Communicate vineyard conditions and anticipated production outcomes clearly and consistently.
- Understand the relationship between vineyard decisions and the quality, character, and consistency of the finished wine.

**Varietal Experience & Vineyard Development**

Experience with cool-climate, hybrid, and traditional wine grape varieties is valuable. Candidates should outline their experience with the following Roo varieties, particularly those they have managed directly.

Experience with these specific varieties is highly desirable. We welcome candidates who can demonstrate transferable viticulture expertise and a strong understanding of varietal-specific growing requirements, canopy management, disease susceptibility, crop load, and harvest maturity.

**Team Leadership & Outdoor Operations**
- Build, train, lead, and develop a reliable vineyard and outdoor operations team.
- Establish clear expectations for productivity, safety, quality, accountability, and professionalism.
- Plan daily and seasonal assignments, manage staffing needs, and monitor performance.
- Lead by example through a strong work ethic and active participation in vineyard operations.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative team environment.
- Oversee vineyard equipment, tools, supplies, maintenance, and safe work practices.
- Assist with broader property and groundskeeping needs when operationally necessary and vineyard priorities permit.

**Communication & Management**
- Collaborate effectively with winemaking, operations, and ownership to align vineyard priorities with overall business objectives.
- Provide regular updates on vineyard conditions, staffing, production, equipment, and anticipated needs.
- Maintain accurate records of vineyard treatments, field activities, crop estimates, harvest data, etc.
