Job purpose

The Winery Laboratory Technician preforms routine juice and wine analysis and is directly involved with winemaking analytical procedures and bottling line quality control. The successful candidate must be detail oriented, able to switch job priorities and perform tasks efficiently without compromising accuracy and precision.

Essential Functions

•  Perform all routine chemical and physical analyses of juice, lees and wine.
•  Records results in proper journals and in Vintrace.
•  Performs bottling preparation analysis and quality control checks.
•  Prepares and maintains accurate records of all analyses and quality assurance audits.
•  Communicates any “out of range” results to cellar lead and winemaking team.
•  Assists in identifying non-conforming product or materials.
•  Monitors tank and barrel fermentations as requested.
•  Collects representative samples from tanks and barrels.
•  Perform bench-scale trials, to include trial blending, stability testing, filterability, color evaluations, fining trials, and acid or sugar series to support the production of several brands.
•  Actively maintains a clean, orderly, and safe laboratory work area while observing all safety rules.
•  Monitors and maintains all laboratory chemical and supply inventories
•  Maintain and troubleshoot diverse and complex laboratory instruments, such as auto-titrator, spectrophotometer, pH meter and D.O. meter
•  Uses common sense and logic to identify erroneous data and malfunctioning equipment.
•  Ability to work overtime as needed and rotate through various work schedules to include shifts starting in the early morning or late afternoons
•  Creates work orders and tracks monthly sulfur adjustments and barrel topping
•  Works with Cellar Master to keep barrel locations and placards up to date
•  Collect samples from barrels and tanks for winemaking team as needed
•  Collects samples and records data for the waste water system reporting and compliance
•  Adheres to all company safety standards and procedures.
•  Special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
•  High School diploma or G.E.D
•  Ability to work overtime and extended hours.
•  Minimum of 4 years winery lab experience.
•  Experience using Vintrace, Microsoft Office and Google
•  Ability to work safely, including proper handling techniques for hazardous substances and use of personal protective equipment.
•  Strong and proven work ethic.
