Schedule: Saturday-Wednesday; occasional holidays, events, and overtime
The Tasting Room Lead supports and maintains a cohesive, goal-oriented tasting room team and an efficient, service-oriented tasting room environment, with special emphasis on elevated hospitality standards and guest relations, setting an exemplary example through floor presence, meeting sales goals, wine education, and staff supervision. The Lead will collaborate with other department managers on winery operations, allocation and club goals, and compliance required to meet TWC business needs. The primary responsibilities of this position are listed below; however other tasks may be assigned as necessary by Management.
Leadership/Team Management
-Supervise tasting room team while fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performing culture
-Train staff in tasting room operations, service standards, inventory, opening/closing, and our wines, history, and policies
-Guide floor and front-of-house operations
-Create and manage staff scheduling and time off requests in Sling; train staff on usage
-Lead team meetings and pre-shift communications
-Establish server sections and assignments; post all staff breaks and enforce during shift
-Ensure proper timekeeping and reporting
-Address employee concerns objectively and confidentially in collaboration with the DTC Manager and HR
-Support cross-departmental initiatives and DTC Administration as needed
Operations/Compliance
-Oversee daily opening/closing/weekly tasks, staffing, breaks, timekeeping, and floor coverage to ensure efficient operations
-Manage transactions, cash drawers, daily reconciliation, banking procedures, and deposit reporting
-Be highly proficient in navigating, troubleshooting, and training staff in Shopify and Tock
-Ensure compliance with Company Policies and procedures, ABC regulations, responsible alcohol service requirements
-Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and well-presented tasting room environment;
-Complete monthly inventory reporting
-Generate reports and collateral as needed
Hospitality/Guest Experience
-Lead an exceptional guest experience; conduct tastings, resolve escalations, and ensure consistent hospitality standards
-Oversee Focused, Industry, VIP, and Group tastings, and host as needed
-Manage reservations calendar
-Maintain expert knowledge of our wines, history, vineyards, and winemaking to engage guests
-Coach staff on hospitality, wine education, guest engagement, and sales techniques
-Communicate new releases, pricing, procedures, and operational updates while tracking performance against goals
-Drive wine and non-wine sales through knowledgeable service and storytelling
-Keep wine openings and bonus pours in alignment with goals, reservations, and Manager direction
-Identify and enact opportunities to enhance guest experience, strengthen team morale, and control costs
-Support special events
Wine Education/Membership/Outreach
-Keep staff current on wine releases, vineyards, and winemaking practices, reinforcing a strong wine-education culture
-Support Allocation and Club operations: sign-ups, member communication, club software, and shipment coordination
-Plan and lead staff release tastings, educational presentations, and ongoing wine education initiatives
-May be asked to occasionally participate in outside events
QUALIFICATIONS
-At least 21 years of age (position requires pouring and serving wine)
-2+ years of tasting room, wine sales, or hospitality experience; 1+ year in supervisory role
-RBS certification or obtained within 60 days of hire
-Working knowledge of wine and wine production; formal wine education preferred
-Work as scheduled including weekends and holidays
-Proficient with Word, Excel, and Outlook; strong POS proficiency (Shopify, Tock, ShipCompliant)
-Learn new systems quickly
-Polished written, verbal, and presentation skills
-Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills, sound judgment and timely decision-making
-Collaborative, professional, and solutions-oriented; able to set that standard for the team
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
-Respond to inquiries with a high level of service, handling occasional difficult situations calmly and with tact
-Prioritize competing responsibilities and meet deadlines in a changing environment
-Maintain reliable attendance and accountability for assigned shifts and tasks
-Operate Shopify, Tock, ShipCompliant, and guest correspondence platforms efficiently and accurately
-Use hands and fingers to operate equipment, including repetitive motion during normal computer and tasting room work
-Stand and walk for extended periods; sit, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, reach, and balance
-Move between tables and carry trays of glassware, wine, and food
-Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, frequently throughout a shift
-Communicate clearly and follow written and verbal instructions in English (required for guest service, compliance recordkeeping, and safety instruction); bilingual a plus
-Calculate figures such as discounts, commissions, and percentages
